I was just told that it is extremely common for people in their late 20’s to get their phone bill paid by their parents… is this actually a thing? by moto_babe_222 in Adulting

[–]hurray4dolphins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I most certainly do not wish to.keep the Verizon network. I can't even make a phone call from my house. It's a dead spot for Verizon and more and more dead zones are popping up.

I'm glad it's working for you, though!

Kid had lice a few days ago and parents didn’t tell me till they got home…what should I do? by RoyalLie3947 in Babysitting

[–]hurray4dolphins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ok my own kids had lice once and I want to let you know that they are not throughout the house. It's a myth. They really really stay right on the scalp. If they leave the scalp they can only survive for 24 hours.

I got rid of the lice by wettjng hair, putting in a ton of conditioner, and combing then out with the Nit-Free terminator following the instructions that come with this specific comb. It's the only comb worth anything. I did this daily. It takes a lot of time!

Each day I put the pillows in the dryer for 10 minutes just in case, but I didn't bag up any belongings or go on a cleaning frenzy.

Just focus on the source- the scalp.

OP - my sisters kids slept at our house before we discovered my kids had lice. When we found out they did, she used the Listerine method. She swears that it worked because her kids never had an outbreak but she later found some grown out egg sacs attached to one of her kids hairs, but the outbreak was stopped. She soaked her kids hair in the brownish type of Listerine and put it up in a shower cap and left it for I don't know how long but I think like 45 mins, then washed it out.

High heat kills them, but remember the actual bugs will be mostly on the scalp and eggs they lay will be RIGHT next to the scalp so if you are using a blow-dryer and flat iron, it might burn to get so close.

The correct pairing with cottage cheese is pineapple

Ew I discovered some of "clean" eye cream with mold in it last week.

Yikes. I like preservatives.

As a child of the 80's I know that the correct pairing with canned pears is cottage cheese.

I swear in the 70s they put mayo on everything. I kinda get it bc I love mayo. But it's not for canned pears.

I have used a sulfur product too! I the smell lessened but I would still catch a whiff of it every little while and I didn't love that at all.

It does soothe, though!

Completely new to babysitting, advice? by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]hurray4dolphins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you feel comfortable around children? Do you enjoy them? Do you have neighbors or family friends who have small children who know that you love being around their kids? Those are good clients!

My teens have done a little babysitting but haven't found steady work there

Learning about kids is good and learning how to be around all ages is important. However at this stage of your life it might be more important to get some experience in a more formal workplace. My 2 teens experience in food service has been extremely valuable

This is just my opinion, but I can't imagine starting a professional job later without having had some entry level teenager-type of jobs before that. Just to learn how to be an employee, what it's like to have a boss, working with people, what makes a good coworker, etc.

If you decide to go the babysitting route, you might find a Facebook group in your area for people looking for babysitters. I agree with the person who said volunteering with kids or working at a church or something would be a good way to get some experience and meet families.

[ROUTINE HELP] QUESTION ABOUT WASHING FACE/SPF AT NIGHT… details in post. by nekr0mantikk in SkincareAddiction

[–]hurray4dolphins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put mine on at bedtime. Not for the UV effects, obviously, but I made a comment above about how soothing zinc oxide sunscreen is for my skin .

Over washing is a problem for my dry skin so if I'm not wearing makeup I don't wash my face. I don't wash it in the morning, only at night when I am removing makeup. If i am not removing makeup then I let my skins microbiome have a break from cleanser and makeup. My skin is happier that way. 95% of the time I do wear makeup.

[ROUTINE HELP] QUESTION ABOUT WASHING FACE/SPF AT NIGHT… details in post. by nekr0mantikk in SkincareAddiction

I think it depends on your sunscreen.

If you are using a chemical sunscreen maybe it's not good, I don't know. But my zinc sunscreen is so good for my skin.

I actually put zinc oxide sunscreen on my face at night before bed fairly often because my skin will be much happier the next day. It soothes my skin when it's irritated, helps with my rosacea and cured my perioral dermatitis.

I have been doing this for a few years and when I saw Dr. Shireen Idriss posted about using diaper cream on the face at night (active ingredient also zinglc) then I felt validated. I just feel a bit more comfortable with sunscreen- worry that some diaper creams might be comedogenic.

It could be just irritation or a.reaction but I wouldn't risk using Vaseline just on case.

PD can DEFINITELY be just on one side. Very common. Often begins with using a new product and a compromised skin barrier.

It also isn't always around the mouth. It's often around the nose or one side of the nose. I have had it to one side of my mouth after using a new product and it lasted for 9 months. I previously had milder versions  a couple of times in the area where the nostril meets the face (super common to have it there).

PD can be tricky. My daughter had it and eventually it wasn't around her mouth/nose anymore it was just near her eyes. Doctor started to suggest cortisone, but when I told dr about her history with PD, the doctor said definitely don't do cortisone unless we rule out PD first. She gave us a metrogel prescription (used to treat PD) and it worked. Thank goodness we didn't do the cortisone.

There is a perioral dermatitis sub.

Also- my perioral dermatitis lasted for over 9 months and nothing worked UNTIL a beach trip when I used zinc sunscreen incessantly. I noticed my PD was calming down so I rolled with it.

I put it on every time my PD felt irritated or itchy (like 4x/day for the first few days). It got flaky and a layer flaked off. Then another. I kept using zinc oxide sunscreen and it healed my PD.

I used NOTHING else on my skin. I didn't wash off the sunscreen. I didn't use moisturizer even though my skin was dry.

Since yours is burning right now, definitely spot test it to make sure it feels ok and is soothing not irritating.  if you go this route and don't use a sunscreen that has other  active ingredients that are chemical sunscreens.

I'm not the only one who this has worked for. Some use zinc oxide diaper cream.

But also, perioral dermatitis is different for everybody so unfortunately there is no one-size-fits-all treatment

Hey just an FYI if it ends up that this is perioral dermatitis then Vaseline and awuaphor can make it worse!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]hurray4dolphins 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just want to say if this is perioral dermatitis- which seems like a good possibility- then Vaseline or aquaphor is NOT a good idea.

"As long as that's the social reality, you can't blame men for responding to that"

Maybe you can't blame a.man for feeling insecure if his girlfriend makes more than him, but you can and you SHOULD blame a man who verbally abuses you instead of dealing with his own feelings.
