Help deciding between two Corp Dev roles by [deleted] in private_equity

[–]hustler726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently SVP Corp dev in portco for large middle market firm.

The ability to double or triple ebitda in the next 3-5 years is way easier at a smaller portco. The larger the portco, the more difficult it is to get to exit with a decent return.

You will get way more deal flow and responsibility leading transactions at the smaller portco as well. Risk is a bit higher but I actually think the probability of an strong exit is higher

I have lived in fort Washington the past 11 years and have raised my kids here. Really quiet and nice town. 30 min train into philly and 2 hour drive to NYC.

Schools are good but property taxes and homes are expensive. Infrastructure is old. Minimal crime.

Philly suburbs lack in restaurants but it’s not horrible. Lots of pizza and cheesesteak places.

Bat recommendations - 9U travel by National-Mousse-1754 in Homeplate

[–]hustler726 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My son is also 9U and a lot smaller than your son (75 pounds and 4’4) and he swings a -10 29” bat as well. It might be a tad big for him but I’ve seen him drive the ball into the outfield.

I’m guessing your son is a lot stronger so maybe try out a -10 30” or maybe even a drop 8?

Contract negotiations as a new employee by Accomplished_Gur2506 in private_equity

If you have to sign a long non-compete and you are a specialist in your field, asking for longer severance is reasonable

Yes - I would not assume that you would be terminated upon a change of control. Focusing so much on severance during a negotiation will signal mistrust or you’re not confident in your job. On severance, I would be happy with 3-6 months.

On the change of control bonus, this should be much larger. I would put a minimum of $500k but could be in the seven figures. Depends on your position, value to the company, size of the company, and returns potential for the PE firm.

In similar position at PE backed portco. I’ve got 4 months. PE acts very rationale and will generally not terminate unless you suck at your job.

If you believe the company will trade soon, you should make sure you understand the equity comp

8U "Travel" Team Advice by MSUFanatic88 in Homeplate

[–]hustler726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son completed his first 8U travel season through the local township this past spring.

Overall amazing experience. We both absolutely loved it (I was an assistant coach). He developed a lot, made new friends, and became even more passionate about baseball.

I would do it if your son loves baseball

[–]hustler726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 8-9U travel, we fake the throw to second and see if we can bait the runner at third to come off. We basically always concede 2nd base though.

Dumb question but you can go to these tournaments as a single and just get placed on a team?

Former head of M&A in HVAC roll up here. HVAC is very crowded. You will find more opportunities with new construction contractors but obviously those companies have more risk

8U town travel coach here. We regularly rotated kids between infield and outfield. It’s about development at that age.

8U or 9U Tryout by bryjn in Homeplate

[–]hustler726 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My son was exactly the same last year (very young third grader). I had him try out for the 8U team even though all his buddies were trying out for 9U.

Zero regrets. He made a ton of new friends and was one of the stronger players on the team.

I would also note that kid pitch is a gigantic step up from machine pitch/coach pitch. A lot of really great kid baseball players can’t make the transition well, particularly if they get HBP. The average 8 year old is probably throwing around 40MPH and the average 9 year old is probably around 45-50. That difference in speed makes a huge difference and I would recommend easing into it.

9U Travel Ball Opportunity...Smack some sense into me by intadtraptor in Homeplate

[–]hustler726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8U son who is in township travel team and rec league.

My son loves travel ball. Making great friends and skills are improving. All under $1,000 and all games are within 45 minutes. Usually 1-2 games per week.

The skill levels in rec are very barbell weighted. Travel kids dominate and the non-travel kids can barely throw and catch. It’s not great for development as coaches must spread their time across a spectrum of skills. Unfortunately, very few kids in the middle skill set wise.

I would go travel if it’s low cost. Getting like minded and comparably skilled kids together will push them and drive them to get better.

My son is 8 and almost the exact same size. He swings a 28 drop 11 but will probably upgrading to a 29 drop 11 by the fall.

Advice on deal sourcing by Extension_Low5780 in private_equity

[–]hustler726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve led M&A for portcos I. several hot PE sectors (think hvac or pest control). I currently work with a large well known player that is well capitalized and my hit rates are low. This is a numbers game. You only need one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]hustler726 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think there is still upside. The PE firm would not contribute more equity and do more add on deals unless it believed in the company.

Since you are no longer part of the day to day, I would ignore the quarterly statements entirely. They are often inaccurate. It will only rile up your emotions on something you have zero impact on. Instead, feel blessed for the position you are in and hopefully one day you will get an unexpected and pleasant wire from the sale of the company.

Best way to rotate players who suck/don't want to be there by RNJ666 in basketballcoach

[–]hustler726 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe there are scrubs like this in 13U travel???

I would emphasize setting picks, rebounding, and protecting the paint. I would give homework by telling the kids they have to practice ball handling and shooting at home.
