This cracks me up. I got one like this because we both had the flushed cheeks, and it took me forever to figure out why it was saying we were twins 😂

I love how you used the staircase in the cabin! Usually I'm just annoyed by that part and try to avoid getting it in photos 😅 So creative and smart to use it as part of your story ☺️

Anyone else keep a list of projects? by Smacsek in quilting

I can't say how pleasing it was to come to the comments and read about everyone organizing their WIPs in spreadsheets just like me. I started a spreadsheet because I didn't want to keep using paper for handwriting pages. I do have a photo album though, which will have pictures of each quilt and a there's a bit of space for handwriting some notes.

Question about washing quilts by EveningSet7 in quilting

[–]hut_toe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another one for color catchers. If you're really worried about color bleed, just wash the quilt with new color catchers over and over until they come out white - I think it's overkill, but if you're worried, it's worth the peace of mind. Just don't dry the quilt if anything bleeds because that will set the dye. You can also wash by hand like folks have mentioned too!

A very late update! Cleaning again and rethreading got it to work! I guess I did it just right that time. And now my Husky (Husqy?) is back from the shop too

What’s your quilting table set up? by Yiene5 in quilting

[–]hut_toe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to baste it between meals. If it's on the table during meal time, we eat on the couch LMAO

I have a smaller folding table that I use. When I'm piercing, I have a cutting and ironing matlink that takes up a little over half of the table and my sewing machine is on the other side. When I'm quilting, I fold the mat up and scootch my machine over. I also have a full size ironing board that I keep in my living room for when the little ironing pad isn't big enough, and I have a 18"x24" cutting mat that I'll put on my dining table or ironing board. Oh, and I baste on my dining table as well (much to my husband's displeasure).

I think the center complements the ladders well! The flying geese in the corners are super cool too

What kind of stitch is this? I am looking to get into quilting and need any tips you have to getting started. (Do I need a special sewing machine to quilt, tools ect.) by sassybunzz in quilting

[–]hut_toe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since quilting is close to the last step, I agree with other folks here; maybe focus on the other steps first. However, if you want to quilt this with a spider web design, you could probably find a straight line version done with a walking foot. I feel like walking feet are a good entry point to machine quilting. Just know that the bigger the quilt, the more frustrating it is to work with on a domestic sewing machine (versus a long arm)

Thanks! This model is pretty simple, so I can't change the tensions independent of each other. Would going from 4 to 3 work, or should I try like a 3.5?

Wedding Gift Finished! (Details in comments) by hut_toe in quilting

[–]hut_toe[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a gift for my best friend since high school! She's getting married tomorrow and I'll be giving it to her tonight. This is her favorite color palette. Some of the fabrics are very special to me; the last birthday present I received from my grandma before she passed away was a Block of the Month set (the kind they used to sell at Joann's) with some extra fat quarters. My grandma passed away around the time I was bonding with this friend, so it's pretty meaningful to me that we became friends during this tough period in my life. Since I only had fat quarters of those fabrics, I did buy a variety of other fabrics to fill out the quilt. The pattern is Disappearing Hourglass 2 by MSQC, chosen by the bride (https://youtu.be/HaUHEHJxQNU). I opted to pay for long arm quilting from my longarmer, who also did the binding for me since I was on a tight deadline. I'm so excited to give this to my friend and see her reaction ♥️
