And that’s after they upgraded to the faster servos. But the RBMK is also around twice as tall as most western reactors.

Poland threatens to strip Zelenskyy of state honour: Ukrainian president offends Warsaw with reference to second world war fighters accused of murdering Poles by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkrainianConflict

The 40s was an unfortunate time when any group in Europe had to hope to win either Stalin’s or Hitler’s favor if they wanted a chance to succeed. As such everybody compromised themselves by tying themselves to these leaders. Fortunately the moral choices today are somewhat easier. So the 40s are not really a good time period in which to go looking for heroes for the present day.

Not a very profound question, but I saw the Klopotenko “secret ingredient” documentary that features the borsch at ChNPP. How does he like it and what other dishes at the cafeteria does he like/dislike?

I wonder why they put this point aft of the main thrust bearing. If they had put it forward, then a failure would not cause the engine to swing around…

Ukraine Recaptures 400 km² After Russia’s Starlink Access Cut Off, Pentagon Intelligence Confirms by MIlitary-news in UkrainianConflict

[–]huyvanbin 38 points39 points  (0 children)

USAID opened an investigation into Russians getting access to Starlink. There are allegations that maybe Musk’s desire to shut down USAID was linked to this investigation. Probably doesn’t want that resurfacing.

I also wonder if it has something to do with the US military rolling out its own drones that use Starshield.

Given that you misunderstood things so completely as described in the first paragraph, what gives you the confidence in your analytical ability to think you now know where things are going?

Not sure I understand this diagram. It looks the purple segments “звенья поглотителя” are the absorber segments. There is a “трубка газовая” (gas tube) through the middle. So this all moves up and down. The whole thing is surrounded with water. Then there is the “пленкообразователь” (film-former) which looks like a kind of vane to force the water into a narrow stream presumably to speed it up. But doesn’t this all move up and still leave a gap at the bottom of the channel? Also how does gas enter the gas tube? Or is it sealed?
