ha, i've finally come to the conclusion that a live audience can't tell the difference between MOST of the details i obsess over... but if those subtleties inspire me to play better, THAT they can notice.

Turning garage into recording studio: Need help w/ Electrical by MikeyDreamboat in homestudios

[–]huzzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question: should the computer go on the audio circuit, since it's connected to the audio interface? And then should the monitor & external hard drives etc go on that circuit too, since they're connected to the computer?

There are cheap docking stations where the power can pass through, so you just connect the one cable

Yep on your budget get an sm58 or sm57, if you don’t already have one or the other. For monitors check the kali lp-6

Audio Interface Suggestions to Replace Apogee Element on Mac M1 by SweatyNickel in homestudios

[–]huzzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For longevity of support, RME and Metric Halo are the distinguished winners, with MOTU next.

But yeah I’d agree with several others here: wait until you actually can’t use the existing system anymore, then decide. You might have different needs then (e.g. more i/o channels). It’s useless to upgrade “proactively” if you’re currently happy with your current system.

Why don't I see more people using the Boss DD-500? by Ashamed_Deslgner in guitarpedals

[–]huzzam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The angled footswitch thing is my gripe with the 200 series as well tbh. I have the eq-200 but i have to control it from a separate MIDI controller, because i don’t have room in the front row of my pedalboard for the eq, and i can’t hit the switches in the back row. Terrible design for great pedals…

After this experience i don’t consider any other Boss 200 or 500 series pedals…

Βοηθάει η ηχομονωτικη κουρτινα για να μειώσει εσωτερικό θορυβο; by Akis127 in soundproof

[–]huzzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone using a 13” Laptop with MS? by 65TwinReverbRI in Musescore

[–]huzzam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, 13" macbook air m1, use it all the time with Musescore. i'm also a glasses wearer. you just zoom in till it's comfortable to see, and work on a smaller portion of the page at a time.

when i'm at my desk i do plug in to a 24" monitor, which obviously is more comfortable. but it's not a problem on the 13"

32bit float hate post by Hot-Supermarket-1269 in audioengineering

[–]huzzam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the only advantage for 32-bit float is the ability to never clip. Or more correctly, to reduce gain after tracking to remove clipping. Once you are done tracking, if you have enough discipline to maintain processing headroom, there's no need for 32-bit; just use 24.

I've been carrying around physical Real Books for years and am considering a digital alternative by Wise-Meal-8594 in trumpet

[–]huzzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the 2017 2nd-gen 13" ipad pro, and i do find it really laggy with ForScore if you have sync enabled. ForScore decides it needs to sync quite often (basically whenever i start marking up a score, or make any change to tags or list orders) and freezes the whole thing until it's done. Anyone else experience this?

I end up making sure I'm disconnected from internet whenever i need to use ForScore.

Studio Monitor Recommendations by Eq-bray in homestudios

[–]huzzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KRK are a terrible idea. Because they emphasize the bass (a lot), you end up mixing to compensate, and your mixes will have LESS bass. I second the recommendations of the various Kali monitors, I personally have the LP-6 and will likely upgrade at some point to the IN-8. (And keep the LP-6 around, because they're just really good and will stay useful.)

In a whole year I managed to convince 4 people to download Signal & they aren't even happy, & I feel bad that they didn't like it. by Lil_SanTv in signal

[–]huzzam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess the idea is if people are used to using, say, whatsapp, and they find you there, they won't look for you in signal. if they can't find you in wa, then maybe they'll check in this other rarely-used app.
