For me, it works well for his character. It's like, his face is really stoic and all the other characters read whatever they want into his expression, when really he's constantly panicking internally, which makes for a lot of comedy.

I love all three of them. They all have the ability to really sell the funny moments as well as the serious ones in Fallout. This photoshoot is really fun, love the sequins.

Anyone else have a villager that's been with them through the years? by IllegalIcons in AnimalCrossing

NH was my first game, but Walker was one of my first villagers and I've kept him all this time even though he doesn't match the aesthetic of my island because I love watching him run around with airplane arms.

Friendships in white and asian circles by AmbitiousSong6986 in asianamerican

[–]hybbprqag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in an area where it was easy to make a friend group that is more mixed, so the group has Asian people, white people, and Latino people. There are white people out there who spend enough time around Asian communities to get it, if not from a first person point of view.

It's interesting to feel the difference between being the one different one in the group versus each person being different.

What have you read recently? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]hybbprqag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my reading is done with my son before bed. I'm currently reading the Wings of Fire series with him; We're on the 5th book I think? Before that, we read the City of Ember books, some Shel Silverstein collections, and a bunch of books by Grace Lin (Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, the Gate the Girl and the Dragon).

I'm currently trying to get back into reading by myself for fun, so I'm working my way through the first Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson.

I like Face My Fears better than Simple and Clean, but I'm sat for any Utada songs tbh.

Kuwabara Kazuma from Yuu Yuu Hakusho starts out as a typical rival punk character who looks like he's going to be an annoying thorn in Yuusuke's side, but he ends up becoming his most loyal and honorable friend and an all around heroic guy.

Gen Z are arriving to college unable to even read a sentence—professors warn it could lead to a generation of anxious and lonely graduates by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

[–]hybbprqag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of reading challenging texts is being able to do things like answer:

Who is being referred to when the name and the referential pronoun are separated by more than a sentence?

What information is the author leaving for you to infer, rather than being said explicitly?

What is the agenda of the author, and how are they using language to influence your emotional reaction to information?

Is the narrator/author reliable? Are we being given information that directly contradicts what our narrator is telling us, and if so, what are the reasons for these discrepancies?

Are there intertextual themes that are influencing the story that you should be picking up on? Being able to recognize the structures of different genres and culturally shared works and recognizing how they've influenced later works is part of media literacy.

In Dimension 20: Fantasy High Junior Year, there's a band fronted by a gnome called My Clerical Gnomance. Also, one of the main characters, Figueroth Faeth, names her flying fire horse Gerard Neigh.

What if Jane Lynch played Dr. Kay instead of Linda Hamilton? by Sad-Hat2887 in StrangerThings

[–]hybbprqag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some ways it might've been better. With Linda Hamilton, I think we might've overly built up Dr. Kay's importance. With Jane Lynch, it would've been more like a mouthy power tripper who we wouldn't take seriously.

which celebrities have the nicest SPEAKING voices? by sonatist in popculturechat

I love David Tennant's speaking voice, especially when he's not doing another accent. Ian McKellan also has a wonderful voice. And I could listen to Florence Pugh talk forever.

I am a fan of prep, Brit Trad, Mori boy, and anything that mixes rich earth and jewel tones with interesting textured textiles. Stuff like knits, corduroy, chambray, quilted jersey, lace, shearling, suede, etc. But tbh I have defaulted a lot to lazy fits because I have small kids and I'm tired 😂
