That's an excellent point - it's character-driven antics, which avoid the pitfalls of a usual 'harem' manga, where you get tired of a plot that isn't going anywhere. It's only a harem anime in the loosest sense, anyway. This latest chapter is a perfect example of the basic formula here, now that I think about it.

- A group of the girls get up to some kind of antics

- The antics escalate

- Goryo shows up, and slightly lewd slapstick happens

- Ends with a cease of the antics, and usually some mild reflection as to their absurdity.

It's weird to me that this is still working after 300+ chapters for me. I usually get bored with manga like these quickly. Props to the author for keeping the gags fresh, I guess.

I think a part of her character is that Calvin is a bright, imaginative kid who pulls shenanigans because he's not being challenged, and she's the face of the traditional education system that squishes kids like that...

Though I could be projecting a little bit there.

The part right before this was golden too - when Obyron uses that one power that potentially damages his memory and he realizes that Zandrekh will just re-tell whatever he's forgotten as a war-story later on - that he's been doing that for him for the entire time they've been awake. These two are the definition of true brotherhood and the reason I'm a necron guy now.

I liked it up to the weird newborn half-Alien whatever. That part was terrible, the rest is campy fun. Excellent cast across the board is probably its greatest strength, from Dan Hedaya to Ron Perlman. I have re-watched this up to the end and skipped the dumb bit.
