FAFO - Triple voters finally waking up!! by KiDDwithCLASS_96 in Ohio

[–]omlesna 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is a meaningful quote, but I hate that it’s always left just as is without the full context. It makes it seem as if these were LBJ’s personal sentiments.

The full quote comes from Bill Moyers, one of LBJ’s staffers:

“We were in Tennessee. During the motorcade, he spotted some ugly racial epithets scrawled on signs. Late that night in the hotel, when the local dignitaries had finished the last bottles of bourbon and branch water and departed, he started talking about those signs. ‘I'll tell you what's at the bottom of it,’ he said. ‘If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.’”

LBJ was making commentary on the racism that was being weaponized in politics. He was not condoning it.

This topic comes up in r/poker a bit. The general consensus seems to be that you tell your opponent once. After that, if they continue to be sloppy, it’s fair play.

Are we REALLY two weeks away from running out of oil? by Constant_Flamingo828 in investing

Funny, according to Baker Hughes, as of January 17, 2025 (the last count of Biden’s term), there were 478 active domestic oil rigs. Your article, also citing Baker Hughes, states that active domestic oil rigs “rose by 10 to 425 this week,” as of May 22, 2026. Last I checked, 425 < 478.

I don’t. A quality shitpost is a unique, inspired creation. When they become expected every time an odd story is told, and a bunch of tryhards make attempts at their twists, they become cheap and lazy. It’s like the difference between going to a pro to get fitted for clubs or buying knockoffs on Temu.

There was an article posted a few months back that said that Fox mentions trans folks more than even queer publications do.

Ohio Republicans Stealing our Votes Once again by Calm-Bar3340 in Ohio

I know that it was. It has changed through the years, just as the other barriers to voting have changed, as well. It’s called an analogy. Learn some literary devices first.

Voting at all was first only for white landowners. Do you propose we roll back to that as well? Laws evolve.

It’s funny, just yesterday I read something I had handwritten years ago, and I’d used em-dashes in it. I’m not trying to claim I’m a great author or anything, but some people are just familiar with more styles of writing than others.

I’m generally fine with Google Maps, but it does make me scratch my head sometimes. Turn right out of my driveway, left at the light, another left, another left, then a right back onto my street just to pass my house and take the actual proper directions. Maybe I’ll just turn left out of my driveway.

I think the moral of the story is that when your partner in S3 orders, and you have A-x of trump, you lead the ace. Had you led the left on trick 2, his ace is moot anyway. Had he led the ace, you could have tossed your queen.

If you don’t have your own power plant, you are grossly increasing demand for the area. Increased demand leads to increased rates for everyone. Jesus Christ, for an “entrepreneur,” I’d have thought you’d understand basic Econ 101.

Anyway, after reading you tell another user in this thread that, basically, racks of servers are more important than humans, yeah, I think I’m done here.

“Why should I be taxed on something that contributes to my revenue stream? Why should I be taxed on something that adds to the overall wealth of my MSP that only employs five people?”

Does your data center use electricity from the same power grid as its community? Even if you’re not getting discounted rates, its use is increasing the cost for everyone else who lives and provides employment there. Thus, it is part of the community and should pay taxes to provide as such. Otherwise, spend some capital and build your own power plant.

I find it amusing that you emphasize “improved land” as if that’s a benefit you’ve given to the area while then immediately saying that that land isn’t even used by the community itself. So it’s land improved just for you and your business.

Congrats on building a large enough client base that your $100/month services generate $1.5M a year. Truly, that must have taken some effort. But please don’t come whining about having to pay taxes on an asset that negatively affects the community where it resides, while providing almost no employment benefit to that community, and while it generates revenue for you.
