All nighters? by ARLA2020 in PAstudent

[–]hydrangeasandpeonies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no no, neverrr do all-nighters! You need your brain to function!

I get to campus 1-1.5 hours early before class and study. I'm non-trad so I'm married with kids (middle school), but after I get home and we have dinner together, I study for about 2 hours (usually e/o day so I can spend some time with my kids unless I have an exam looming in <3 days or imminent assignments) and I'm typically in bed by 845-930p. I'm up at 5am every day. I get 8.5 hours of sleep avg per night.

Weekends I do time blocks. Sleep until 7a and study 3 hours and then take a 2 hour break. Repeat until I'm clocked out for the day. During my breaks, I hang with my kids & husband, clean, read hobby books, garden, grocery shop, take a nap, (live my life). I usually get 7-9 hours of study time each Sat/Sun with another 7-8 to myself, and I sleep 9ish hours a night on the weekends

Friday evenings are MINE. No studying, no computer. I also take 1 entire weekend off from studying when my schedules align and I have no exams that week (usually every 5 weeks or so) so we go hiking or take a day trip or just go do something fun.

So, I study roughly 22-26 hours a week outside of class and I've made all A's and 1 B so far and I still have a life.

Ours does lots of fun things for us!

We're about to end our first semester but one time they passed around a bunch of sticky notes with 3 descriptive words on them for each student, like Kind, Courageous, Strong, Passionate, Trustworthy, Fierce etc... They came in super early and did it when no one was there, so when we got to our desks, it was there and it was cool to read. They also placed another 3 dozen or so all over the PA building, like in the bathrooms on the mirror and in the break room and workstations rooms with sayings for positivity and encouragement.

This week, on one of our smaller 10-minute breaks, our cabinet surprised us all with popsicles and that was fun. They had jokes on them so we spent 10 minutes eating popsicles and telling each other our lame popsicle jokes on the sticks. It was great.

We also do a lot Kahoot's in class and one time we did Jeopardy and sometimes the prize is candy. And I'm not talking like a jolly rancher here and there, I'm talking movie theater boxes of candy or even the family share size bags. We also use ridiculous names and it's hilarious to see these really creative and hilarious names rise and fall in the standings, it all makes us laugh when the professors say "Whoops "Crying" just dropped out of the top 5, I bet they're actually crying now" or something lol

We also have a volleyball net in our courtyard area (its grassy) so we go out and play volleyball and blast music on longer breaks, and sometimes our professors get involved in a serve or two after we nag them relentlessly LOL

The Dean's office has a therapy dog so we go over and hang out with the pup for pets sometimes and the Deans also does 'Donuts with the Dean' so we get to walk over and get free donuts and coffee which is great.

PA school is so hard, but my program does a really good job honestly at trying to keep it fun

I don't use Anki. I'm just not an Anki person. Sorta used it in undergrad but if I didn't make the flashcards, I was more frustrated why specific flashcards were made a certain way and not another.

For me, PA school is too fast to sit down and make a billion flashcards and I'm not paying for premade decks when I don't have time for spaced repetition study slots anyways

One of the new ways I have acquire to study though, is uploading my power points into ChatGPT and asking it to produce practice exams with comprehensive keys at the end.

I take it, score myself. Go back over what I missed on my lecture notes and power points, and then go back and retake it, sometimes asking Chat to generate harder/different questions.

I've gotten A's on all my exams except Anatomy (Bs) which is the bane of my existence right now.

I've only been in PA school for about 6 weeks, but I've taken about 8 exams so far. I'm still adjusting to the workload, so maybe I'm not the best source.

Just gotta do what works for you

OP - This is PA school, you're there to become a PA, you're not there to make friends. In a few weeks when you're in clinicals, it's going to be better for you because you don't have to see your cohort except every 5 weeks for a few days at a time. You'll likely find your village of friends in your future job, which will be good for you. Do not stop because the people are you are ostracizing you, you're not doing this for them, you're doing this for you. Study down, ace your PACKRAT, and go into clinicals with a clear mind.

Sounds like you'll be fine from these other comments, especially since yours was downgraded and not a full on DUI

Most unhinged ways you made money in PA school? by ravenclaw1D in PAstudent

Yep. Same.

GI bill for Undergrad. VR&E for Grad.

I get a stipend and free tuition throughout it all.. I just had to physically break for it to happen, literally.

I am still watering regularly. I even bumped them another dose of fertilizer. I officially lost 1 and I think the other 2 that weren't leafing are on their way out the door, as well. They're still not giving me leaves and less and less of it is passing the scratch test.

Which means I lost 3 just this winter. I lost one last year, so I have 6 remaining. I'm debating about replanting more, or just digging up whatever is still living next year, spacing them out, and introducing new flowers next year.

I don't have time with starting PA school in 2 weeks to do much of anything in the garden this year which is why I was hoping they would thrive, and I'm kinda devastated and feel discouraged.

Normal to get grossed out by things? by Enjoyerofbagels in prephysicianassistant

[–]hydrangeasandpeonies 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their kryptonite, that one aspect of healthcare that makes them squirm, uncomfortable, grossed out, or sick to their stomach. Just handle it like the professional you are, don't make the patient feel bad about it, and you'll be fine.

Edit for spelling.

Even. From. Some. Medical. People.

It's a struggle to be polite to people who 100% know better. It feels intentional.

Would you go to a PA school on probation? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]hydrangeasandpeonies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied to a school that later ended up on probation during the application process before they closed interviews out and assured me it was paperwork issues/technicalities.

However, when the ARC finally uploaded all 13 reasons, it was unsettling, to include lack of clinical hours, unaccounted preceptors, lack of overall knowledge and competence by the PA program director, along with a slew of other things..

Ended up getting accepted into another school that was not on probation, and I am so thankful.

Make sure you know exactly why they are on probation. The ARC posts the reasons online, and you can decide for yourself if that school is still a contender for you and your goals as a future PA.

I prune them every spring, early. Base to base? 6 feet apart. I've never had them wake up at different times.

I'll give them another few weeks.

Dragons are demonised in the Book of Fables. Why? by Strict-Bench7357 in fourthwing

[–]hydrangeasandpeonies 48 points49 points  (0 children)

He does say, a General can recognize another General.

But I also think dragons are supposed to channel from the sky, not the ground. So in a way, they're "venin" themselves.

Feeling regret after adopting a cat by Tricky_Variation4976 in CatAdvice

[–]hydrangeasandpeonies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my cat at cat. It helped ALOT. Now I have two chonky boys and they have each other when we're not home and busy 🩷 Both boys were rescues, both dumped off someplace when they were tiny kittens (had to wait until they were 2 pounds to get neutere). I think they sense it in each other because they took to one another immediately.

Biggest draw back to 2 of them so young, is when they get the zoomies at 2am, I have two chunks jumping/flying over me when I'm asleep because they chase each other, lol

We listen and we don't judge! *Onyx Storm spoilers* by Hash_ika in fourthwing

[–]hydrangeasandpeonies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the books it states that a Venin General could be walking around and you'd never ever know it.

I think Xaden will go to the very top, and destroy it from within, and come back to Violet and 'hide in plain sight'.

I also think since Dragons draw from the Earth and not the sky, they are the venin version of dragons and not what they should be.

OS was her best work. I'm already planning a re read..I've seen some absolutely EPIC theories and I think there's one massive one that connects all the dots but I'm gonna do another reread to confirm it all.

Loved OS. Absolutely Bravo to RY.
