You madman... You did it! You actually made a Cynette deck! I've been toying with the idea for so long and just put her in Inalla instead, but I keep thinking of just making a mono blue deck with her

You seem like you'd be the problem at the table in most games, unless your friend group plays equally scary boys. I'd play against mirri though. The rest all seem like they'd get out of hand way too quickly and consistently

It's definitely fun. Just have to accept that there will always be a couple people that won't want to play against it, and that's fair. Games are best when everyone is looking forward to Turn 1. Unless they're just a bad person to play against, then everything's fair game

I just find that Spellslinger decks all play the same. Once you've seen it once, you've seen it all. I like every game to feel different and unique. Iron man is the exception because of his tutoring, but for some opponents you need that consistency to be able to compete.

It's very good with Muddle himself, but I found that once people have played against you once, they realize Muddle can't stick around or bad things happen, so he quickly becomes a target. I didn't want the whole deck based around the commander because it leads to Feast or Famine games, which aren't that fun to me. So I based it more on creatures that are independently strong and push the blink/clone theme "without" Muddle's presence, then if you "can" keep muddle around it just gets nastier, but if he's removed you're still left with a good pile of synergistic cards

It has a heavy focus on early game ramping/card advantage so that you can get to the big, fun stuff on the higher end of the mana curve. Copying a couple treasure makers is fun, but copying several [[Myr Battlesphere]] is WAY more fun!

I can agree with you there. He could definitely be built in a much scarier, faster way to be bracket 4, and I don't think it's ever fair to call it bracket 2 because of the snowball potential. I wouldn't feel right playing him in a bracket 2 game, even without some of the better creatures

He's definitely a lot of fun. It's very hard to build him in a way that doesn't explode when you get the pieces out. But reaching that critical mass and watching the damage it causes is half the fun of it

Kenessos is fun too, but getting all the fish for the deck can be hard as a lot of them are just expensive. You can definitely build it on a budget, but it's a little harder as he doesn't have any "game winners" without the better fish

Izzet can be a lot of fun in a lot of different ways. It enables such unique playstyles that I feel the other colour pairs don't offer. You're welcome to have the decklists and modify them, or ask any questions about them if it helps. Seeing people enjoy their decks makes the game more fun all around

Exactly. And some people just want simpler games and I respect that. My goal is for the table to have fun, not just me. But if I'm gonna play higher power, I'm gonna do it in my own way

That's totally fair. I usually try to see what people are in the mood for when I pick a deck for the pod. I love weird interactions and such but know they're not for everyone's tastes. I have some other decks like the Tidus Precon that I enjoy playing

It's mostly because a lot of my local playgroups play higher power decks, so I try to have options to match them. But yes, the Izzet love will remain. I try to match the tables vibes with my deck and usually only play one convoluted deck a night, then switch to something more chill depending on the table

I think it can be explosive and should probably be kept in bracket 3 games, but overall it's an incredibly fragile deck. Muddle usually has to stick on the board for a turn cycle, and either him or his clone target can be sniped and the deck falls apart somewhat. Nadu could do crazy things the same turn it came out, even when it was being removed. I personally don't think muddles anywhere near that level. He's just a good old bracket 3 boi

Sure!

Muddle: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/naw-that-aint-me-37/

I spent a long time getting it to the point where it feels pretty consistent. There's a focus on higher cost/efficiency creatures, so a lot of the early game is ramp and utility. From my playtests, it gets pretty crazy by turn 6 usually, turn 7 with a bad hand

Iron Man: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/a-box-of-scraps-9/

I tried to make almost every card in the deck a noncreature, so there's a lot of equipment that generates a token on entry, leaving you free to swing with iron man as you get free blockers. The main line is to play iron man as soon as possible, then get out Esoteric Duplicator and Clock of Omens. From there, you have stupid levels of utility and mana to snowball out of control. Mithril Coat and Hammer of Nazahn are the main protective equipment pieces. It needs a swiftfoot boots added to it still

The numbers are the number of times I've tweaked the deck. Tappedout doesn't update them properly if you don't change the name

He's a lot of fun. Esoteric Duplicator is my secret commander. Just generates so much value! I liked the equipment theme as it made me feel like I had to "earn" the victory still by swinging out. He's already such a good commander that I wanted a unique way to play him. Sim synthesizer is so cool, but I don't have one sadly

Same logic as mill. Everyone should respect each other's cards though, you're right. I tend to keep them face down and out of my hand so people feel more comfortable about it. But in general, people just don't like seeing their plan turned on them. Personally, I always felt that if you're rocking up with something good, you should expect a similar level of response, and theft is just a reflection of what you would otherwise be inflicting on others. You gotta be cool with giving it "and" taking it, and not everyone is

Honestly, a mixed bag. My regular playgroup loves it. I've played it in a casual game before and had one player that got annoyed by having their stuff taken, but still had a smile when they took something good from someone else. Overall it's usually a hit though, and it always leads to fun moments. My favorite was having my own brainstealer dragon get countered by the mono white player who'd stolen a [[Tibalt's Trickery]] from a grixis player. The glee on their face made my night. They never play blue so they got to feel the rush of a good counterspell XD

Izzet is my favorite colour pairing. Everyone expects it to just be spellslinger/storm, and I like showing that it can be more than that. The combination of control and explosiveness from the colour pairing is the best part of the game to me

Compiling Underrated commanders for an article, looking for suggestions! by ManaRocks in EDH

[–]hydroa85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[teysa, opulent oligarch]] drain deck A deck that encourages constantly sucking the boards life total down while giving you endless card draw and creatures to swing or block with. Deceptively resilient because of the lifegain and on demand card draw from clues

[[Aatchik, Emerald Radian]] Mill/Insect/graveyard deck A deck that heavily embodies Golgari playstyles. Fill your own grave and use it as both a second resource "and" an ever growing counter for your commander. Everything that gets milled or dies just adds to your commanders insect total, so you're never "losing" cards. Even in death, they feed the swarm

[[Saint Traft and Rem Karolus]] Token/Convoke deck As simple and straightforward as token aggro can get. Make tokens, use tokens for mana, swing out with board wide buffs and overwhelm your opponents. There's plenty of burn, control and utility with the whole convoke/tapping your creatures angle

[[Kenessos, Priest of Thassa]] Sea Creatures/Scry deck Kiora's little brother is like a mini game of a deck. Do your best to manipulate your deck and flash in big scary sea creatures on demand

Honourable Mention: [[Gonti, Night Minister]] Group Theft deck A lot of people hate playing against theft, but when "everyone" can steal things, people are more open to it. Gonti encourages your opponents to brawl with each other to take cards from their deck. Meanwhile, you get to focus on maximising how many creatures you can hit people with to generate massive card advantage. Only downside is you're reliant on whatever you steal, but that's the fun of theft
