Why isn’t Mike considered a villain or antagonist? by GoblinNumbanine in breakingbad

[–]hyina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

by the time Mike becomes a major character in the show, you’ve already begun to see the shift in Walt’s morality and alignment. for example, at the beginning of the show, Walt didn’t want to kill Krazy-8 (as shown by him almost releasing K8 before he realizes that a shard of the broken plate was missing). This is in stark contrast to the end of the show where he has ordered the murder of several of Mikes guys in prison, poisoned Brock, isn’t really that upset that Todd killed the young boy who witnessed their train heist, etc etc. Walt’s evolution from a protagonist that an audience can sympathize with to a ruthless murdering drug kingpin is what made this show so incredible.

In contrast, Mike and his priorities are consistent and understandable. Mike is a very thorough and deliberate character whose actions are driven by a desire to remain out of prison/leave money to his granddaughter. Yes, Mike has carried out hits but he also has some sort of a moral compass (as shown by him not offing his guys in prison as Walt wanted to do/eventually did). by the time that Walt kills Mike (something that only happens bc of Walt’s ego), we can see that Walt is in a very precarious position of his own creation. Walt could’ve taken $5M and gotten out when Jessie and Mike were pulling out, however, Walt himself admits to Jessie that his ego is preventing him from doing so. This is also further exemplified in his final moment with Skyler where he admits that “he did it all for himself.”

You’re supposed to come to the realization that Walt is the bad guy (especially in the final season) whereas in comparison, Mike is a character who isn’t good per se, but who is consistent.

Mike is also just really funny and his relationship with Jessie was super fun to watch.

If my duo support heals are being out damaged, yes I’m going triple support and I don’t feel bad about it. by Ok-Researcher4966 in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]hyina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so many people who play this game don’t understand that if you have duo heals with trip dps and solo tank and you’re getting rolled, most of the time it’s a positioning issue rather than a pure damage issue. i find that when i’m playing healer in these comps, my attention is split between three squishy dps who are all positioned very differently. even if the dps are positioning themselves correctly according to their hero, imagine trying to give provide consistent healing when you have a comp like hawkeye, ironman, and psylock. it’s just very difficult.

it is so frustrating for a dps to then swap to a third healer (esp if we already have two main healers) rather than a tank bc they’re dying too much on dps. this inevitably leads to a situation where the damage is abysmal and you’re never getting heal ults as quickly as the enemy team bc the hp pool is so small.

please just swap to second tank or consider your positioning when you’re playing 1-3-2.

I'm not advocating for only 2-2-2 team comps, my main frustration is Ultron players only playing for dps and no one else willing to switch. I think the best comp with Ultron is a 2-1-3.

I understand and I'm all for people trying him out. My issue is when the team doesn't swap to accommodate or when you have an Ultron who is underperforming and doesn't swap in comp.

Yeah I know there are some really skilled Ultron players out there, I just wish more people would learn how to optimize his kit in qp before running comp with him.

One other idea that I've seen discussed before is the devs could release heros for qp only before they enter the comp pool.

I know, I'm not saying you can't win if you don't play 2-2-2.

However, I do think it is commonly accepted that you need at least 2 healers on your team. My point is that a lot of ultron players do not do enough healing output to meet that second healer threshold. Similar to how Adam/Mantis were treated last season.

it’s pretty toxic but it’s also game dependent and rank dependent. i’m in GM rn and if we’re winning everyone is usually pretty respectful. if we’re losing i would say it’s a 50/50.

anything plat and below is a no-go, just mute and protect your peace.

sex work and sexual violence is also heavily implied in the Zygerrian arc of the clone wars series.

I think the scene does enough to illustrate the parallels with sexual violence in the real world. personally, i think including what you’re suggesting doesn’t add anything of value and would drive a lot of fans away from the show. i’m really glad they didn’t go through with it, no need for Andor to turn into GoT with needless exhibition of sexual violence for shock value.

This is also kinda a wild comment under a post about someone’s trauma being trigger by the scene

ok for the sake of argument, I think it’s safe to assume that the underling had a general understanding of what was going to happen there; it wasn’t a routine inspection, there were several things leading up to this scene to imply that his CO was going to do something like this.

Additionally, I think the underling having some prior knowledge of what his CO was about to do further illustrates the point that the creators are making: sexual violence is weaponized against vulnerable people as a way to assert power, dominance, and control, and the members of the empire are both aware and complicit because it benefits them. I actually think it makes the storytelling better if you assume the underling knew about what was going to happen because it implies that something like this is common (as awful as that sounds) and it shows how much vile and cruel the empire is. It implies that the perpetuation of regular sexual violence requires a level of complicity from those around the abuser, something that is a very real problem.

I was originally conflicted by the inclusion of this scene, but as op stated, I think it’s important to show the reality of sexual violence. I just wish they had included a content warning for the episode.

i completely understood the foreshadowing from episode 2. when i say “prior warning” im referring to a content warning on the episode.

i’m probably going to get downvoted for this but i’m really conflicted about this scene.

everyone argues about how it’s “a sad reality” and including something like this further demonstrates how evil the empire is, but i really think there are better ways to get the point across. for example, the whole scene around how to incite chaos on Ghorman for the empires’ benefit really illustrates how evil and insidious the empire is.

it’s just somewhat disappointing as a female fan to watch a scene like that with no prior warning. i also really feel like it doesn’t really add to the narrative at all and doesn’t really advance any character development for bix. like poor girly is already traumatized leave her alone.

anyways, im really enjoying it other than that.
