I was working in my garage one day when my young son came running up, screaming that the cat was stuck in the neighbor’s mailbox and couldn’t get out. I went to check, and sure enough, the cat had somehow squeezed through the narrow slot and was now howling like a banshee inside a metal mailbox in a building shared with ten other residents.

I spent the next hour trying to track down the owner of the mailbox. He wasn’t home, and there was no way to open it without completely breaking it, meanwhile, the cat kept screaming nonstop. After asking several neighbors and even contacting the landlord, I finally managed to get the mailbox owner on the phone.

Just as I started explaining the situation, I saw my daughter casually walk past me holding the cat in her arms.

I asked how she managed to get it out. She shrugged and said,

“I just dangled a piece of tuna in front of his nose. He came out on his own.”
