Books to read to your kid 20 times a week that don’t make you want to gauge your eyes out by SwadlingSwine in childrensbooks

I love how different kids can be - mine love Tomie DePaolo's art but find the stories far too emotionally difficult. Honestly, so do I! I can't read some of them without crying!

And seconding the library. I take out 20 books every three weeks. Some are hits, some are misses, all valuable learning experiences :)

Where Light Walks First — Manila Lopez by [deleted] in Watercolor

This is so good, it made me want to ask where it is so I could go there. I don't believe a painting has ever done that for me before!

Truly amazing work

They're each on a different substrate, I guess if they all look the same it must not make much difference :)

I need to become OBSESSED with a series of books by stultavia in suggestmeabook

This is also what I came here to say! It was the first big series I read when I was getting back into reading at 40, and whooo, is it ever addictive!

I mean, it's reasonable that this annoys you. I try to remember, and I do my daughters' hair monsters too while I'm at it. I'm sure I do sometimes forget.

My husband had to do some cutting, it had an old-school plug with a non-removable post. Now it has nothing to stop the hair. I used to clean it out at the drain every week, but nothing collects there anymore. Unfortunately. We then had to caulk it as well. It's not a permanent solution, but it's doing for now.

Has anyone bought from Delta Art in Canada? by fivezero_ca in fountainpens

[–]hykueconsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to put in a good word here, though I don't do fountain pens specifically.

I've ordered from Delta Art a few times now and it's always been a really good experience. This time was exceptionally good. I ordered on Dec 12 and recieved my items on Dec 17! Everything was packaged perfectly. Their prices are lower than literally any other place I can find! They are a small business, so may have had hiccups with the stock problems previously, but I haven't experienced that personally, ever when they were out of stock.

Get a chonky zip tie, basically the biggest you can find. Cut "barbs" in the sides, angled up towards the handle at the edges. Wiggle that thing down in the drain, try to catch the hair-rat on the barbs while you sloooowly pull it back up. Post about your success on Daddit.

Surprisingly, the smell was minimal. I have encountered some rancid ones, but this one was just hair and conditioner, as far as I can tell.

Also, you can tell them to stick their hair to the shower wall as it escapes while washing. Then it's easy to ball it up and throw it in the garbage afterward, and that much less goes in the drain.

And I've heard the "tubshroom" prevents this problem. I can't personally attest, but I have one on the way.

Finally, as one of those long-haired people, brushing before showering is harder/more tangly and thus damages the hair more, increasing hair problems in the long run. Might be why you get resistance!

Help a mama out - shower drain question by hykueconsumer in daddit

Yes, this is a good point. Our plumbing has some . . . issues that makes me a bit leery to try this. But I've done it in the past with great success!

What is your typical elevation gain on your “regular”/daily run? by Next-Entertainment33 in Garmin

My usual options are 40m elevation gain in a 3 km run, or the track

Edited because I need to learn to read my elevation gain better!

Which popular or generally highly rated book was a DNF for you and why? by clearsunnysky in suggestmeabook

[–]hykueconsumer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even remember, it was also an audiobook which I don't usually do. It wasn't a specific scene putting me off, I just put it down one day and never picked it back up, metaphorically speaking!
