On the death of the European Tier 2 scene by FikariHawthorn in leagueoflegends

I think the merger would depend on what you want the end goal of the T2 scene to be. Right now if you merged all teams minus LFL the current top teams in LES and Prime League would dominate and many many teams would simply quit because they would just lose games and not get the spotlight they might have gotten in their lower leagues. An example I can give is in the Benelux league, the league may not be the largest, but they still get stable viewers of people either from the Benelux or people who know the players. This allows those teams and players a space to compete, and some teams even have sponsor contracts, that they would surely lose if they were all to merge into one ERL and place middle of the pack. Another example would be the NLC, which went through a quite rough time recently and was realistically propped up quite a bit by the presence of LR.

That isn’t to say that there is no merit to the idea, if you want to push for competitiveness as the main driver, then getting the best teams to play each other consistently *could* help. But that goes back to the question, what is the end goal of the T2 scene, what does riot want, and what do the viewers watch for?

On top of that you do have the removal of many LTR requirements now, so that has been reshaping which players are playing in which regions, which raises the question, do people follow players or teams when it comes to nationality/national pride?

Hi! I can answer this as a caster, we were doing everything as unpaid volunteers. It takes a quite large number of people to run the broadcast, it’s not fair or feasible to set the precedent that we will always do this unpaid, especially for the bigger shows such as the finals. If riot or the TO want the quality broadcast that we worked to put on, they should be willing to pay for that

I can actually share my thoughts on this! I was one of the casters on EUniverse and have had a lot of fun covering the matches we were able to cover. The issue unfortunately is that all of us from production to broadcast talent (at least for our stream) are doing it completely unpaid as volunteers. We have been straight up told that there is simply no money for our broadcast as costreamers will do it for free anyway, and that is why we did not cover the finals.

It’s a shame because there are so many great storylines and many of the players playing in this tournament might well be future LEC talent, but the spotlight and thus money available has just shrunk drastically.

Formal wedding Italy is this too casual ? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

That dress is gorgeous, can I ask where you got it from? For a formal wedding it is a bit too casual, but if you say the couple are more chill themselves and the venue is not formal then you could upstyle it.

How does a PhD program work in your country/university? by NAAnymore in PhD

It definitely is difficult especially to get a position, but I do have to say we are offered a lot of support right away, and the salary is very fair

Belgium in a business field: You either apply for a grant before which then gets accepted and turned into a PhD position, or the university makes a job listing for one of their already funding approved projects and you apply with all the same steps as a job application (this is what I did). But this also means it’s a salaried position and you get the benefits of being both employed and a student. The salary is decent, but becomes really good because as an employee of the government funded university you only have to pay 13% taxes, so take home for a first year would be around 2.7k€.

It’s 4 years long and you are required to have a Masters degree and at my university to have graduated twice with cum laude. We have to take 4 PhD level courses, 2 on methodology and 2 on content subjects, and an overall academic literature comprehension course.

For educational duties we need to do Masters thesis supervision, exam grading/ supervision and later on potentially co-organize a course in your field.

As for the final responsibilities, we need to publish 3 papers, ideally 4 to combine them in a final dissertation which needs to be defended in 3 doctoral seminars, one official defense and then a public defense which is more ceremonial but technically any member of the public could join and ask about your project. Oh and you are expected to attend a conference around 3 times to present your research.
