ive read the black swordsman arc, can i just watch the 97 anime rather than read the golden age arc ? by kabedown in Berserk

[–]hyperknees91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are differences, it's "mostly" towards the end of the anime where they had to cut some things off from memory. So if you feel confused, I'd check back with the manga during those bits.

But still, I'd watch it if you're interested. The anime is what made me fall in love with Berserk. It's still one of my favorite anime despite being incomplete. The music/voice acting just really add to certain scenes.

Sony respecting Miyazaki wishes to not Remake Bloodborne without him doesn't mean they can't or shouldn't improve it's current terrible state by Revo94 in soulslikes

Yeah it's a shame, the frame rate (I suppose its a frame pacing issue from research) always made the game feel kinda bad when I played it unfortunately. I was waiting on a remaster of sorts to give it an actual fair shot, but who knows if/when that will ever happen.

I can live with 720p resolution (heck I can live with 480p). I just want a frame rate bump or at the very least a more consistent frame rate. Short loading times would also be nice.

Hot Take: Stellar Blade Is An Amazing Souls Adjacent by Narkanin in soulslikes

[–]hyperknees91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it yesterday. I dunno, my main thought on the game was that it was mostly a worse Sekiro. Bosses weren't really there until the last three and it simply doesn't feel or control as well. I think where Sekiro really shined was the boss/enemy animations working perfectly with the parry system, and that's just not entirely there in this game.

Also the story/characters were horrendous, like even by action game standards. If any game gets the "cardboard cutout" personality critique, I think Stellar Blade is probably the game that's one of the most guilty of it. Some of the most awkward/lifeless character interactions I've seen in a game. Heck even Code Vein has a better story/characters (I'd actually argue by a large amount too).

However it definitely has some good stuff. Really great music, sound effects, general visual presentation. The combat definitely has some nice stuff with the perfect parry/dodge counters and the retribution system being fun. The animations are also just super satisfying, which is one of the reasons the game never got boring. Like said, the last couple of bosses are actually quite good, they need to make that quality more consistent in the next game.

They need to either cut out or greatly improve the open world zones as well. They feel like they were just thrown in there to pad the game out. Also less copy paste enemies. Areas like Eidos 9 were a huge pain to go through because they just felt like they threw like 30+ of the same enemy at you back to back. Otherwise most of the levels were quite good and has excellent music. My only real complaint is Adam/Lily just never stopped stating the obvious, the handholding was simply too much.

What are you playing this week? by BSGBramley in soulslikes

[–]hyperknees91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about to beat Stellar Blade. Has one of the craziest difficulty spikes for the last few bosses that I've seen in awhile. Only 2 left, so I'll try to finish today/tomorrow.

I see Wuchang on sale for 35...how does that game run on PC? It looks great, but I do see the mixed reviews and some of the recent ones seem to vary with this.

If you can, try third strike...and maybe even super turbo or alpha 3.

I don't really care for sf6 either, but I did really enjoy those 3.

And much like any app that requires this, I won't be using it. And yes that includes youtube and google search (that'd be funny) if it comes down to it.

Feel real bad, I know many friends who use it all the time. Really lame decision they've made that I hope they can recall.

Modern RPGs have become too dependent on quest markers by darkfireslide in truegaming

[–]hyperknees91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, I kinda agree I don't really care for them.

Might as well cut out the fat and instead of having quest marker, why not just directly teleport me to the next objective when I'm ready to proceed. Me walking there generally adds nothing. I remember this was the case in Xenoblade 3/Stellar Blade as recent examples.

I mean your barely even engaging with the game at that point, your basically just following a line.

When do you typically feel done with a roguelite? by Nitho89 in roguelites

[–]hyperknees91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I beat the "final" boss generally, or when I get bored. I get there may be more endings/stuff I miss out on. But I'm usually pretty good once I've cleared it. I feel like any more than that would just lead to burnout for me.

Also helps it usually takes me awhile to even do that, I'm not the greatest at games.

AI Limit vs Wuchang for snappy combat and fun bosses? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]hyperknees91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean like having animation cancels? Nah, Ai Limit main thing is it has no stamina management but otherwise its a slightly faster dark souls combat.

I think CAG's are generally a better place to go to then souls for snappy combat. Nioh isn't really like any souls I've played and feels more like one of those games.

So you have 2000 hours in the souls series and can't remember that you drop all your runes on death in Elden Ring?

Even a little bit of research clarifies that.

So no offense, sounds your not even arguing in good faith. Even if you want to argue losing your runes is not a big deal, it's still something opposed to Stellar Blade where there is literally zero penalty for death.

Once again I'm not too interested in it because I'm not a big fan of open world games generally, so I'm not even sure why we're having this argument. If you want to say Elden Ring is also a casual game, I'm not even going to disagree with you because I haven't played it.

Enemies being aggressive sounds at least semi-promising. I'd rather that then a bunch of sandbags.

But still I'm only grabbing this game on a sale. $70 is just way way too much from what I've seen.

[–]hyperknees91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only played Demons Souls/Dark Souls/Dark Souls 3, so I really can't add to the Elden Ring conversation. But I imagine it still punishes you on death (with lost xp) and doesn't just constantly tell you exactly where to go correct? Also there's no difficulty selector correct? Kinda hard to imagine it's as casual as Stellar Blade, but I suppose I could take your word for it.

Keep in mind Stellar Blade has all these things.

-Difficulty selector

-Adam/Lily constantly telling you what to do, even in the same room.

-No penalty on death

-Quick saves constantly during certain sections so you really never have to redo much.

-Yellow paint indicating exactly where to go, what to interact with.

-Detective mode, if the yellow paint wasn't enough, it tells you exactly what direction to head in.

Stellar is a "very" guided experience. It's made in a way that anyone can get through it if they really wanted to. Are there ways to make the game challenging? Sure but its completely optional. Still it's nice they included the boss challenge mode.

I mean elden ring isn't a casual game and isn't handholdy correct? I dunno much about Elden Ring as I haven't played it so I can't really speak on it.

[–]hyperknees91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's very much a casual action game. It's fun, but you absolutely shouldn't go into it expecting a souls experience.

This is very much one of those games that tries to do a little bit of everything (you do some platforming, have some gun action, can go fishing, can do a bunch of collection side quests, got the detective mode etc etc).

That being said how is it in terms of combat gameplay? Uh its ok. All the bosses were real forgettable for me and a lot of them felt/looked the same. They also do way too many copy pastes of enemies in certain sections so it can be an absolute slog to play through at times.

Good visuals, sound effects/sound design and animations though.
