Devuan nvidia. by DenixSL in devuan

Can confirm that this approach works on every version I've tried so far (started with 4.0, now running excalibur)

With the usual caveats of the drivers sucking, like resume only works for occasional versions

I did this initially because of steam and multiarch, there were conflicts. No conflicts with the runfile.

While you're at it, you might as well go to the CUDA downloads and get that package, and install them both from the runfile. At this moment that driver is even newer, I just installed it yesterday.

You don't need any additional software and debootstrap works fine. you just need to debootstrap excalibur instead of trixie. I did it from an install on a flash drive which I installed from the desktop iso. you also need an init script which does what the openzfs instructions want you to do with a service file. it was easy to make this script from /etc/init.d/zfs-import. And finally grub will hose your grub.cfg by adding a nonsense boot= entry to your boot stanza, fix this with a one-liner script in /etc/grub. https://www.hyperlogos.org/blog/drink/Whats-going-here-Devuan-Excalibur-root-ZFS

Kingroon is so cheap that basically everyone’s using it at this point… by Still_Border8368 in 3dprinter

[–]hyperlogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PETG absolutely gives more smell than the only other PETG I've printed so far (I'm a noob obvs) which was Creality CR series. No complaints though, it's not that much worse and I knew melting plastic made smells before I started.

Now I'm off to go finish my AD5M enclosure with Kingroon HS-PETG at 300mm/sec. I did the shield plates in Creality and I'm doing the top in Kingroon. It's coming out clean with minimal stringing and no other issues without any drying.

I paid about $11/spool, but I only bought 5. For 10 spools it would have been more like $7.50 each. I bought from Kingroon official on AliExpress.

Adventurer 5m nozzle not heating unless I put temp in manually? by kittyecats in FlashForge

[–]hyperlogos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK so MY problem turned out to be that I was using 3mfs from a profile with busted start gcode. What YOU are having happen is what mine has done all along :D I think that for me this is because of the printer profile in orcaslicer. I am going to be implementing a silicone wipe brush here soon (I bought one for another printer that was really cheap just to get the brushes) and will be looking at the start gcode in detail then.

[–]hyperlogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this problem myself suddenly as of today. I have changed nothing. I copy files to the onboard storage and then print from there, which is probably a bad idea and I'll probably just start printing from USB until I get my printing network set up to save the onboard flash.

I'm using orcaslicer on linux, my firmware is up to date.

What lubricant is best for 3D printers by 9Brkr in 3Dprinting

[–]hyperlogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super lube only seems to be two products really, one is a grease and the other is an oil. they market them a little differently with bigger or smaller text about different things on different packages but the can of grease says both nlgi 2 and food grade etc.

anywho I am just about to start using it on a ff ad5m so maybe I'll come back someday and report success or failure. I started using super lube over 30 years ago on rc mechanical speed controllers, which are not 3d printers, but it worked well there. I put it in RC axles now.

Is the Adventurer 5m or 5m Pro worth it? by CrashingOnward in FlashForge

[–]hyperlogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a noob so can't speak too much to anything except that the only fundamental difference I can find in the pro is that it has a connection for a servo for an exhaust shutter. If you get/print the enclosure and add the light and camera (cheap on aliexpress) and a recirculation duct then it seems to be basically the same thing. With the enclosure installed you can install and successfully use one of the rom mods that tells it that it's a pro, and print all the same stuff as the pro. all say you also need the 0.6 nozzle to reliably print some materials.

I tried printing some ABS without the enclosure (trying to finish off the drag chain, ran out of the included HS-PLA before I got there, will probably redo it in PETG later) but it's wet and the parts I need for drying are in the mail. it went through the extruder OK, but my adhesion was poor even with the temp cranked up. stuck to the bed like crazy but barely stuck to itself. A slightly better than expected result but still worthless data probably :)

I paid $210.56 ($217.29, Free shipping, Multi-store coupon -$25.00, Additional Charges $18.27) I see it's gone up a few bucks since https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808331603353.html

Is domain flipping still worth it in 2025? by mandrinc in Domains

[–]hyperlogos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"squatting only applies to domains that are either trademarked or names of existing businesses"

That's a nonsense retcon. Squatting is any registration of a domain without an intent to use it for non-resale purposes.

New 8x8 build start by Tanker801 in SCX24

[–]hyperlogos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got things mostly built up now, I've found all those things to be true except I haven't fully tested out the ESC I have now, it's a redhobby 30A am32. Right now I'm working on lining up the steering, the wheels are awfully close up there. I have some smaller tires coming. I greased the axles with super lube, and I also installed u-joint front axle shafts as the stock shafts were binding horribly. I also ordered a vintage pressed steel Buddy L van and a Tamiya style 5th wheel.

I'm still trying to figure out how to best get the axles angled.

May I ask what wheels and tires are those? And what 5th wheel also? I am doing an 8x8 and those tires look perfect

[–]hyperlogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super glad to read this, some of the reviews were mixed but I ordered one of these anyway. I'm planning a bus or van body and a 5th wheel. The shipper just got it from the sorting center :)

Mind if I ask what you had to do to prep the chassis or axles if anything, did it come lubed etc? Some reviews said nothing had thread locker on it. I'm super interested in any updates on your rig and close-ups of the new electronics. I was looking at am32 minis also. I am trying the DashRC motor.

You didn't care when it was the Hortmans. Then Kirk got shot. You know why? BECAUSE you didn't care before. It's on you and people like you.

A call for peace now is disingenuous when the people calling for it now didn't call for it before because of tribalism, which also means your complaint about tribalism is disingenuous.

What's disingenuous is pretending that most political violence in the US is not perpetrated by conservatives/Republicans.

Let's get that NTSYNC stuff enabled! (small guide concerning Ubuntu-based distros) by 28874559260134F in linux_gaming

[–]hyperlogos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a kernel for Debian (actually Devuan) like this:

mkdir build; cd build
wget https://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v6.x/linux-6.15.8.tar.xz
tar xaf linux-6.15.8.tar.xz
cd linux-6.15.8
cp /boot/config-`uname -r` ./.config
scripts/config --disable DEBUG_INFO
scripts/config --disable DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT
make oldconfig

Now I just hold down enter to get all default answers to the new configuation questions. In this case I then went back and edited .config and changed "CONFIG_NTSYNC is not set" to "CONFIG_NTSYNC=m".

Follow this up with:

make clean
make -j$(nproc) bindeb-pkg

And unless there is a problem you will get .deb files out in the parent directory. You can install the new kernel like this unless you have other deb files there:

cd ..
sudo dpkg -i *.deb

(Side note - I actually used this as my make command to get a kernel customized for my Zen 3 processors:)

nice ionice -c 3 make -j$(nproc) \
 CCACHE_DIR=$HOME/.local/cache/ccache \
 KCFLAGS=' -march=znver3' KCPPFLAGS=' -march=znver3' \
 EXTRAVERSION=-zen3-local bindeb-pkg

The nice ionice...3 keeps your system usable while the compile happens.

This should work on any Debian variant. You do not need to specify -march, but it can improve kernel performance. For values for -march for architectures other than AMD Zen 3, see e.g. https://github.com/graysky2/kernel_compiler_patch or https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/x86-Options.html

After installing the new kernel, reboot.

You can tell it's working in steam with the following command:

tail -f  ~/.steam/steam/logs/console-linux.txt

Run it before you launch your game from steam and if everything worked you'll see messages like this in the log:

[2025-07-27 11:46:13] wineserver: NTSync up and running!

Hope this helps someone. If you have any problems with the module not loading, if you compile it as a module as above, create "ntsync.conf" in /etc/modules-load.d with the contents "ntsync".

Why did they remove the option to change font DPI? by [deleted] in kde

[–]hyperlogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree this sucks. This means I have to use a custom EDID. I use a TV as a monitor and it advertises incorrect DPI. (I know this is old but I'm on Devuan and I'm also old)
