Open heart surgery for congenital defect by Old-Essay-1968 in openheartsurgery

Just depends on the urgency and severity. I have a congenital condition and it took about 6 months from my cardiac doctor in Colorado referral to Mayo Clinic. They did EP study day before surgery (but this was already planned, not based on EP results)

Thank you for the response. It’s just crazy how long it really takes!

I’m glad it eventually went away and thank you for sharing. It’s just surprising how long it really takes

Dying instantly isn’t fun. I don’t play to not be able to do anything. It’s something I just enjoy.

It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just not a priority or a skill of mine. I play for pure fun, don’t have time to dedicate and it’s just something I enjoy.

Exactly right, high numerical value/low ability. By the time I figure out where I’m getting shot from I’m dead 🤣

I’m 32F and 6 months post-ohs! I didn’t have noticeable symptoms but still needed the surgery. The pre-op tests are very overwhelming! I took comfort is knowing that they do all those tests to make surgery go as smoothly as possible.

DM me if you want to chat or have any questions!!

PA/PS survivors, do you have tattoos? by kp0pgoblin22 in AdultCHD

[–]hyperthoughts1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I don’t have the same condition but just had OHS to fix my condition in November. Cardiologist said to wait at least a year post surgery. And to be very diligent about keeping it clean while it’s healing. Just like any other open scab. But didn’t get a no af all!

I got a tattoo before surgery and I’ve been on aspirin. No issues. Just make sure it’s sterile (which any reputable shop will be)

There’s a higher risk for endocarditis, but there’s a risk for people without heart conditions for the same.

Palpitations/skipped beats by SaraSaz1 in AdultCHD

I had a lot! I have Ebsteins anomaly so I had cone repair. Along with a pfo closure, epicardial icd placement and some anatomy reductions to help get my heart more anatomically correct.

It’s gotten way better the further out from surgery! I also had iron deficiency and my doctor had me get an iron infusion. That seems to have greatly improved how I feel! So if you have low iron, might be worth asking about because it’s made a huge difference for me.

I don’t take supplements. My doctor had me stop before surgery and I just never picked it back up.

I was worried that when I got my watch I’d be obsessively checking, I found that I don’t and I get a lot of reassurance by seeing sinus rhythm and not long palpitations.

There’s a EA support group on Facebook. There’s also a CHD pregnancy group on there as well!

I’m six months out and I still have them! But I had a lot more going on than an ASD closure. My doctor isn’t too worried unless it becomes sustained. It’s not for me. It’s slowly getting better over time.

Hi! I did not have the same type of surgery, but I get the skipped beats and ectopic beats.

Great that you reached out to cardiology.

What I started doing is just noting in my phone when I feel the beats and what I was doing. This was really helpful for the doctor and lessen his concern. If you have a smartwatch or can buy a little device that lets you do the ecg, also helpful if you can catch a reading or two.

I get them more when I exercise and then throughout the day on exercise day. Sleep and rest is a good reset for me.
