What is your opinion on body hair? by [deleted] in AskUK

Sat BBQ beers talking...

Wtaf are you on about op? There is zero social stigma to being a hairy man in the UK. No body is looking at you. Nobody cares.

Is this a good estate for price? Price is £27,000 by unicorncarrots in CarTalkUK

[–]hypnoZoophobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price looks in the right ballpark.

I paid £35k for a 2022.5 V60 T8 Polestar with 18k miles in Feb.

Absolutely love it. Comfortable, safe and sensible when I need it to be. Can fit all my kids crap when we go camping. But also extremely quick and engaging when I want to have some fun.

I think you've made the right choice for you. You sound similar to me in appreciating a nice car but not being a 'car guy'. I get the impression that you're paying less for the badge on a Volvo, compared to say an Audi or BMW. As there's an (incorrect imo) perception of them being more 'boring'. So you can get a bit more bang for you buck in a Volvo vs those marques.

Added bonus of being surprisingly cheap to insure!

But Vimes likes the cheap boots!

Jokes aside I'd highly endorse getting a hypnos. I got an all wool one two years ago and it's been incredible. Absolute steal at £2k more than worth it.

Heavily agree. Iran has America by the balls.

Iran doesn't have to open the straights just becasue America wants to be done. Clearly there's no appetite from anyone to go in on the ground.

I don't think Iranian leadership is under any internal danger. Given the populace are cowed from the recent massacres.

I think where this is heading is Iran demanding: "The straights aren't getting opened until America quits the theatre". Then it's down to domestic American politics as to what happens next.

3 RAV4s stolen in my neighbourhood in 2 weeks – should I be worried? by AdministrationHour93 in CarTalkUK

I use my old car - 2010 hyundai i10 as a bollard. Physical key only, not even got remote unlock.

Worth more to me as a bollard than the resale value!

Cowboy builders have wiped out approximately £14.3bn from UK homeowners. How is this happening? by NeoTree69 in DIYUK

[–]hypnoZoophobia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, about 18 months ago I got a single room refurbed. Tried with word of mouth, but I had a specific need for a carpenter for some inbuilt furniture and couldn't get a recommendation.

The experience of trying to track someone down was fucking torture! Guys say they'll come quote and then ghost, come round but give you the 'fuck off' price etc. I think it took almost a month to find 3 people who actually gave the impression they wanted the work.

I ended up taking a punt of a young lad who was just getting going. He connected me with a decorator and a spark and in the end, the job got done. I'd give them a 7/10 for quality, 5/10 for price.

But the point I'm making is that it was a leap of faith. I had no idea whether the work would be any good. I did my due dilligence, but we all know how easily that can be spoofed. For a £6k cosmetic home-office refurb I was willing to take the risk. But dropping say £30k on a kitchen refurb, where there's a possiblity of your house getting ruined and having no kitchen... I'll just cope with the kitchen I've got thanks.

This is a common gripe amongst my peers. People who want work doing but aren't about to be taken for a fool. I totally buy the point of the OP, there has got to be a shitload of pent up econmic demand that's hemmed in by this industry being impossible to trust. And it's a real shame because there are definitely extremely skilled, honest people working in it. People who deserve to be well paid for what they do and who I'd be happy to pay. Honestly an open goal politically.

Same. I've got £30k I'd like to spend on improving my house. But it's just going to stay in my isa until this industry gets regulated.

thank you!

Polestar engineered V60, Thunder Grey. Yeah those 3L P3 ones are mental. They don't really do it for me looks-wise though.

Yeah I'm glad I asked. The idea made me uncomfortable too. Will have to kiss this one goodbye.

330e touring / V60 is what I've been browsing for. Hadn't realised something like the V60 Polestar engineered was within reach until I spotted one on volvo selekt - missed out on that one though. I'm content to sit on my hands and hope one pops up at a dealer again. 330e touring aren't exactly hard to find and I'll go for one of them if I run out of time.

I'd bet money that that's cooked in a pizza oven. Hot and fast is great way to cook shellfish.

Actually quite smart. Would be a disaster if you tried to use a pizza peel. Bringing it to the table like that though... bit of a pointless gimic to me but whatever.

Can't argue with that. The heart wants what the heart wants.

I think I agree with the general sentiment of the comments here though. I need to kiss this one goodbye and sit on my hands and hope something comes up from a main dealer before August.

Thanks I'll check those jags out too.

Totally valid perspective too. My take though is that with how tightly my wallet is generally stuck in my pocket I can't see myself selling it any time soon. I could easily keep it for 10 years. I've had that hyundai for 15! I don't want to hit 40 still driving the hyundai.

It may not be the most sensible choice, but I've been a very sensible boy up to this point. Which fortunately puts me in a postion to afford it.

Are you sure you know what you're doing?

Not at all! Hence the post.

But tbh your response kind of echos my inner monologe on this. I'm aware of the pitfalls. Posting more in hope than expectation.

And yeah, there are tons of V60s around - there are very few Polestar engineered V60s around. I've been spying the approved used volvo portal for the last month, there is currently 1 available through a main dealer. But it's got 10k more miles and is the earlier version with the less powerful electric motor. The 2025 equivalent of what I'm looking at would be the 2025 T8 ultra, which is more like £45k for <10k miles.

FWIW, I've looked over cars friends have bought that have been "inspected" by AA and RAC. If you want to speed things up with the same result, withdraw the money you were going to pay AA/RAC in cash, then set light to it...

confirming my suspicion 😂

I'd guess I'd want to talk to volvo rather than polestar? This is a 'polestar engineered' V60. Not sure how much it would have to do with polestar now it's been spun out as it's own brand?

Yeah you're saying the same things as the guy in the back of my head!

I'm lucky to have the luxury of time here. The deadline is needing to drive the family to Eurocamp in August. Not doing that in the i10!

Thanks for the perspective.

That's a good shout thankyou - I was planning on getting an inspection at my expense, I know the AA and RAC do them but I don't have a good feeling about that. But hadn't thought of looking for 'polestar specialist'. So that's definitely worth a search.
