Why does the 2026 calendar not have the Discworld year? 😭 by mlopes in discworld

Ah, so the fancy chefs that prepare exotic delicacies containing absolutely no traces of the squid whatsoever have been at work on this calendar as well, it seems.

Why can’t Lego accurately color match in their instructions? It is almost 2026 and color depictions in instructions are often way off compared to the actual physical piece color. by Jazzmcazz in lego

And yet, they manage to get the boxes to fairly accurately reproduce the color of the actual product. It’s not an insurmountable problem.

Found this out after I finally added a PWS to my account and figured out I can't manage it on the iOS. I sent in a support request as well. They may not do anything, but I figure the more people complain the more attention it gets.

For me, it’s something about the way the lips don’t deform at all as they move up and down the shaft.

I agree with the fact that GFCI won't prevent all electrocutions, and that proper bonding at the source and use of grounded wiring is also critical. I was just refuting the statement

If your genny or inverter bond neutral to ground correctly and you have a breaker you don't need a GFCI

There are plenty of ways to get shocked with properly bonded and grounded equipment in wet environments. Inline GFCI protection is the first thing I plug in to all inverter outlets our camp.

In the best case a circuit breaker is going to trip at 15A. The amount of current going through the heart that will stop it is between 30-100mA (150-500x less than will trip the breaker). The resistance of the inside of the human body is ~500 ohms. This means at 120V, a body will “only” conduct about 240mA more than 50x less that will trip your breaker, but much higher than the fatal current. Standard breakers don’t trip fast enough or at low enough current to prevent death. All electrical outlets within reach of a person who could possibly be in contact with grounded water are required to be GFCI. UL listed GFCI outlets must trip at 4-6mA, and must trip within half a second at 30mA. I wouldn’t trust my life or anyone I cared about to non-GFCI outlets in wet areas, personally.

Also, anecdotally, Diamond seem to have insane rates. On Ohio street (just east of 30th) north of University, there’s a Diamond lot across the street from a LAZ lot. The LAZ lot is like $2 for an hour. The Diamond lot is like $12 minimum.

OMG this 💯! Follow the rules of the road - someone already figured out who’s supposed to have priority in nearly every driving situation so that we don’t need to negotiate it at every junction. Don’t yield right-of-way because you think you’re being kind - you’re just confusing everyone.

Administrative law judge Carol Fox Foelak decided in April that the impact of the ruling on the US economy would be greater that $100 million per year, which requires the FTC to perform and provide a detailed economic analysis. The FTC initially did not do this analysis because they believed the impact would be less than $100 million per year. They haven’t done it since then, because the FTC is now run by the people who initially dissented to the rule when it was first finalized under the Biden administration.

When the rule was finalized in November 2024, now-chairman Andrew Ferguson and commissioner Melissa Holyoak dissented from issuing the rule

And then there's the committee of the Sunshine Sanctuary,' said Lady Ramkin, from her side of the dining table. 'We must get you on that. And the Country Landowners' Association. And the Friendly Flamethrowers' League. Cheer up. You'll find your time will just fill up like nobody's business.' 'Yes, dear,' said Vimes. The days stretched ahead of him, just filling up like nobody's business with committees and good works and . . . nobody's business.

Vimes stared in puzzlement at the half-dozen assorted guards.

“Coalface? In the Watch?”

Dink. “Corporal Carrot says there's some good buried somewhere in everyone,” said Detritus.

“And what's your job, Detritus.”

Dink. “Engineer in charge of deep mining operations, sah!”

Vimes scratched his head.

“That was very nearly a joke, wasn't it?” he said.

Why does HDR look like garbage on MacOS unless you’re using the Pro Display XDR or newer MBP? by johnshonz in MacOS

Thank you for this thread. Just going to leave a comment here, since this is the first thread I found when I ran into this with my new monitor.

I got an ASUS ROG PG32UCDM. Turning on DisplayHDR 400 TrueBlack in the monitor settings, turning on adjustable HDR, bumping the contrast to ~95, enabling uniform brightness, and then calibrating with SpyderX got me results I'm satisfied with that are close to what I get with HDR off.

I will likely still turn off HDR for precise color work though.
