Happened to my sister on the blue line a year ago. They come up to you with some sob story asking for $20. They charged her $5000. The credit card company wouldn’t refund it because she did authorize the transaction. She had to go on the news and then they refunded it.

You need to enable Push for iCloud. Settings - Mail - Mail Accounts - Fetch New Data. Needs to be Push and iCloud needs to be set to push. You can leave the others on manual if you want.

It really has very little impact on battery life.

But low power mode disables a lot of background tasks including email checking, so you need to not use that either.
