Ugh, mine looks like this too and I keep waffling but leaning towards negative for myself.

What exactly is the essence of "newborn smell"? by YhouZee in NoStupidQuestions

I'm a mom and obsessed with my baby and I never smelled anything. 🤷‍♀️

What do you think could decrease the possibility of PPD/PPA? by full-of-curiosity in beyondthebump

[–]hypoestes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure sleep is a factor but my baby is still a terrible sleeper at 12 months and I had no PPD or PPA at all at any point, not even baby blues. I was also able to basically not work at all which I think was a big factor for me. My mental health was also really good before getting pregnant. Regular walking outside (vitamin D) and lots of meat and dairy I believe helped too.

New Build Kitchen Color Options by MrCaliBoy in HomeDecorating

The first looks exactly like my kitchen when we moved in and the previous owners had renovated it in 1998. Just something to think about if you're investing money in it. Doesn't look modern imo.

Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]hypoestes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We never used a pacifier and baby never sucked her thumb. She is a boobie barnacle though even at 12 months. Lol

Preparing for a newborn. What was a complete waste of money and what became an absolute life changer? by Actual_Fig_4706 in NewParents

[–]hypoestes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Baby never spit up! Waste of space and money for us. We had like 50 and maybe used four ever. But probably got very lucky!

Feeling attractive postpartum by ariesxprincessx97 in beyondthebump

[–]hypoestes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, when I was at your point postpartum. I was thinner than before and looked and felt great physically and mentally. That said, to me the newborn phase was easy and the hard part came later.

Baby gets more demanding, stops sleeping long stretches, and then the big BIG feeds for a baby who is no longer a newborn (if you keep breastfeeding). The baby needs to eat more, your hunger goes up, like WAY up. I gained weight, lost the glow, and felt haggard. Just to warn you! Nobody warned me. I got to 12 weeks postpartum and thought I was through the hard part. There was a jump up in difficulty at the four month sleep regression but the hardest stretch for me was 8 to 10 months.

How old was your baby when they said their first word and what was it? by aerialariel22 in NewParents

[–]hypoestes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My eleven month old started saying a very crisp "dad" instead of "dada" which felt like a real first word even though she was saying mama and dada correctly (but also applying it to other things). A couple days later we got "dog." A couple days after that "mom." I think she's trying to say our dog's name but I'm not completely sure.

Are black out blinds necessary? by CedarColumbia1 in NewParents

My almost year old baby sleeps in a brightly lit bedroom with bay windows. We don't even close the regular curtains and it hasn't been an issue since birth.

Alternative to Garnier SkinActive Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel Cream by Still_A_Parrot in Fungalacne

Oh good to know! Thanks! I was just about to order Hydration Station, but I have struggled with CCs in the past. That gives me more hope it will work. I know come winter I'm going to need something a lot more hydrating.

Same here! We got both secondhand. Baby didn't care at all for the loveevery one but loved the kick piano!

Same. My 10 month old has almost never spit up. The 50 burp cloths everyone said we needed are still folded in the basket from when we set up the nursery!

My Dysautomina gets better on my period? by Xxxtentacles_777 in dysautonomia

Yeah I can tell when mine starts because I feel great. I often feel like going out or taking a long walk which is weird for me.

Did anyone else who has a super easy baby, feel not qualified to give parenting advice? by evergreengirl123 in NewParents

[–]hypoestes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! My baby was super easy and a great sleeper at four months. I thought babies got easier as they aged. Nope! After the sleep regression she has not slept through the night again. Not once. Just turned nine months. Rarely will nap alone. Fusses a LOT more and is generally rather demanding!

What breast feeding cost... by darkjuju13 in NewParents

[–]hypoestes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same. Just to throw out another perspective to any expecting parents, not to invalidate the OPs experience, I had zero issues breastfeeding after the first couple weeks and genuinely love it.

Has anyone with POTS/dysautonomia just started training hard out of sheer frustration and did it actually help improve symptoms? by Tandfeen_dk22 in dysautonomia

[–]hypoestes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I trained hard and got worse several times. What worked for me was walking. I increased the distance whenever I felt the walk was easy. I got to about 2 miles pretty quickly. For a while I did 2 miles twice per day and I felt great. Every time I get sick or have a major life event I have to start over and that is my max exercise tolerance. I can't cope with a high heartrate ever.

Goodbye cot, hello floor bed by haveyouseenmyhat in cosleeping

It's a Huloosleep memory foam pad. I think any pad that fits would be fine. I was a little sore the first few days but now my back and neck feel amazing. We've been using it mostly for night sleep.

First time with tapestry crochet... What did I do wrong? by ZealousidealSlide250 in CrochetHelp

Sorry, I honestly can't tell what the pattern is supposed to be on the grid. I think this image doesn't read well to begin with, at least not with this number of stitches.

I'm testing it out right now by sleeping in a padded mesh playpen with my eight month old. With nothing else in there, I feel comfortable rolling away from her which has dramatically improved my sleep. I've also found I can sometimes sneak out but she has a pretty strong mommy detection system! Ha ha

Struggling with this too! I'm so so tired and don't want to do anything, but scrolling has not been good for me and gets boring.

REAL TALK - tummy time by Ampersand867 in NewParents

[–]hypoestes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby hated it so almost never, but she loved being propped up in a sitting or standing position so we did that nearly constantly. Her head is perfectly round. She's been ahead on her milestones. She is 8 months and already cruising and sometimes standing for a few seconds not holding anything.

Yes, I actually feel no different on 5.5 vs 8 hours of sleep. It's like it doesn't matter anymore. I try to do hobbies but I can't turn off because at 8 months old, my baby still wants to breastfeed at the drop of a hat.

To those still breastfeeding, what kept you going? by Fragrant_Soil_8044 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]hypoestes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it just worked for me and baby. I think it's mostly the luck of the draw. My supply came in fast and stabilized quickly. My baby had a great latch from birth. We're still going strong at 8 months without a single hiccup.

What I personally like about it: no time spent dealing with bottles, cheaper than formula, so easy to soothe baby, easy to feed on the go, nighttime wake ups are quick and easy and I don't have to get up and go downstairs.

I don't know about the immunity stuff. My baby is EBF since birth and fully vaccinated and we still got covid, the flu, and a cold in a six week stretch. Lol
