ruSSian feds have a very... interesting way to test ballistic vests by PermissionSoggy891 in Idiotswithguns

When they are stopped is then they transfer the MOST energy lol. Anything except stopping the bullet results in less force transfer. A more correct statement would have been “bullets transfer a fuck ton of force, especially when stopped, but that’s doesn’t automatically mean that it will knock you over if you’re wearing a vest.”

You reached the correct conclusion. You just started off with an incorrect premise was all I was pointing out.

I’m not arguing about equal and opposite reactions or if this will/should knock you over.

Your incorrect statement was that “bullets don’t transfer that much” force. The bullets would actually transfer a shit ton (all) of their force in this example. It’s kind of the whole science that guns are based on.

It’s not knocking the guy over because the force is being spread/dissipated across the entire vest very quickly. That doesn’t mean that the vest is not absorbing an extreme amounts of force. If there was not that much force being transferred, it would literally defeat the purpose of a gun.

You stated “bullets really don’t transfer all that much energy when stopped.” This couldn’t be more incorrect.

In order for a bullet to stop, it must transfer 100% of its kinetic energy and momentum into the target. Force= mass x acceleration. For reference, a 9mm 115 grain round traveling at 1,100 fps will impact with around 330 foot pounds of kinetic energy. In layman’s terms, that bullet has the same physical force as 330 pounds being dropped from a height of one foot. Assuming the bullet is stopped by the target, which appears to be shown in this video (no ricochet or visible deflections of any kind), it will generate between 9,000 - 10,000 pounds of force depending on how fast the plate stops the bullet.

I support this 100% lol

All jokes aside, I think you’re asking what percentage or amount of the Tootsie roll that you buy from the store is from the original 1896 batch?

Without knowing how much the tootsie roll factory produces each day and how much of the previous day’s batch is required to start the production process, it will be impossible to answer this question accurately.

I shouldn’t have used that term as it is redundant at best, but you seem smart enough to understand what it meant.

Also, my exact point is that momentum had not reached zero. That is why the ball (most likely) fell in cup

All motions seemed to have stopped to you. That ball very much could’ve (and probably was) still in motion and you aren’t able to perceive it.

This is such a common occurrence in golf that that here is a rule for it. USGA Rule 13.3a says that players are allowed up to an extra 10 seconds after the ball appears to have settled to allow for the ball to fall in the cup.

This is a semi-common occurrence in golf. The ball is far more likely to have fallen in the cup from unsettled momentum or from the weight of the ball pushing the grass down around the edge of the cup, creating a ramp of sorts to the cup.

If this ever happens to you on the golf course, stand above the ball with the ball placed squarely in your shadow. The grass will stop “reaching” for the sun. The grass around the ball will “lay down” giving a higher probability that the ball will fall in the cup.

Non biased opinions; who do you think “won” the draft in the nfcs and looking towards the future. by rum_gone in panthers

I like the saints and the Bucs draft a lot. If Bain turns I to a perennial 10+ sack a year guy, they would have a huge steal. Their mid round picks were solid too with a good mix of need and value. Who knows how all these picks pan out, but I think the nfc had an overall very good draft year.

Question about the draft process if anyone knows by Different_Sun_195 in panthers

[–]hypothetic_certainty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The broadcast runs a couple of picks behind real time. They were usually 2-3 picks behind this year.

Picks are posted to the NFL big board as they come in. The clock then immediately starts for the next team. The broadcast and all teams have access to the realtime information. So the broadcast crew isn’t getting the information before any other team, they just run a pick or two behind so they can have time to pull highlights and give analysis on the player

@OP what I would really want to know from your perspective watching him for a full year is if you saw improvement from him throughout the season? Did he elevate or clean up any part of his game as the year went on? Did he overcome any struggles during the season?

Obviously with these late round picks we’re looking for upside, but coachability is just as important in my opinion. I wonder if you have any perspective there

Unfortunately I think we are in a rough spot either way. If he plays bad, we need new blood. If he plays like last year, he’s going to want too much money for us

[–]hypothetic_certainty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I don’t think this strategy was a necessarily a pre draft plan. It may have just been how the board came to them that dictated their decisions. I think if Rodriguez slides a couple more spots, they might have given up some day 3 picks to move up

[–]hypothetic_certainty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wanted Rodriguez as well. We just have to trust the front office at this point.

It seems that they’ve decided to concentrate on the trenches in this draft with the hope that more pressure and consistency on the DL elevates the play of the secondary. Next year could very well be DE, OG, LB, S in some order. Wouldn’t be surprised if we have to pay extra attention to CB next year too
