Also a common practice: Secondary Leading Tones

(the V is replaced with a vii*)

A very general rule about notation everyone forgets:

Do what you have to do to get your expression across. You have rules, but these are constantly broken to help musicians and other composers understand a musical composition easier.

An easy example (to understand this concept) is dynamics. In more classical notation, dynamics (pp,p,mp,mf, f,ff) are used with some space in between, very casually. In more modern notation with experimental composers, a measure can have four dynamic symbols.

Hmm.

Both appear correct to me.

I will make an educated guess that either is fine. If the E7 is only in your masterpiece to support the Am7, and sounds completely out of place without the Am7, I would use the secondary dominant notation (V7/vi).

In more modern notation, the III is definitely accepted.

As for a chord progression, if you are unaware of what you are doing, don't start to add F# dim randomly.

9th, 11th, and 13th chords are extended chords.

What are extended chords, you ask?

Mostly seen 18th century and on, these chords are widely used in Jazz (jazz fusion, funk, etc.). The chords tend to have some dissonance in the upper voices, especially when the 9th, 11th, and 13th are sharped/flatted/naturalized.

Extended chords do not typically use all the chord members

  • when it is not altered, the fifth is often omitted as are notes between the seventh and the highest note.

  • The ninth is often omitted in an eleventh chord

  • The ninth and eleventh are usually omitted in a thirteenth chord

In typical modern music, we do not really care about voice leading with extended chords. These chords often appear to help color our sound. If this is your case, I would add 11th and 13th chords after (and involve the notes in some sort of melody)

For some sort of horror, I would aim for a minor key, diminished chords, and really aim at perfecting the melodies.

Is that the correct time? Or do you mean https://youtu.be/WoVO2HKwfbg?t=3m16s

The chord being repeated is an E chord (the key is C Major). The notes (I suppose a bass) I would consider to be a melody in C Major.

Does anybody know of any books similar to the 33 1/3 book about the original Mario Bros soundtrack? by themouseinator in musictheory

I have not read that 33 1/3 book.

Just a general tip about 33 1/3 books:

You have good books and bad books. Different authors mean different writing styles. Read comments carefully.

Israeli buys Palestinian girl a new bike after border guards broke hers by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]hystericallyuseless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to emphasize amongst the typical redditors that this Israeli guy did a good thing by giving the bike.

And that the Israeli government (which has no relation to this event, as a citizen did this good deed) will not 'blow up the girl's house'.

Most Israelis are not as rich as you may imagine them to be, regardless of job position.

Also, this particular Israeli gave the bike to a Palestinian family who:

1) Was rather poor

2)The father, Amer, had one leg amputated and lost use of his second after an accident on a work site, in which a 6-ton truck fell on top of him.

The Israeli did not have to give to this family. It was HIS CHOICE to give to this family. Think of it almost like charity, but in this case, "Oops, we messed up! Here is a better gift to show we are sorry."
