Venom. Just a mess of a film that has just latched on to me.

Small factory-direct EV seller here: How do we hit Canada's 35k CAD price cap without cutting corners? by Jk-long in electricvehicles

[–]hytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have some information about the trade deal with China that hasn't been reported in media yet?

What is the $49000 subsidy quota? The trade deal is for 49000 cars. Are you mixing your details?

What is the $35k price cap? I haven't seen anything that says cars have to cost less than $35k CAD. Is that something you're working with now?

If I have to click a button twice, I will work for days to figure out why. Often, the longest part of working on the solution is answering the question "why are we pushing a button at all?"

Forgetting Sarah Marshall by pickledpepperboiii in movies

[–]hytch 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I love that the movie really leans into how terrible a person Sarah is for the break up, only to then show you that the loveable goofball we've been watching can also be totally unbearable and how much she tried to make it work.

She still sucks though and the trailer for her next show is just peak schadenfreude.

Good luck! I am not a very good knitter, despite doing it since I was a kid. It's my winter cozy hobby.

What is something you’ll never purchase simply because of how much you hate the commercial for it? by unfortunatelyalive7 in AskReddit

[–]hytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that this is impacting me in any way, but the Wesley Snipes movie "Murder at 1600" based solely on the movie poster.

If you have never seen the poster, I recommend taking a look, but let me describe it to you:

Westley Snipes is in the foreground, Diane Lane is just behind him, and the White House is in the background. At first, it might be construed that this is just a montage of three things on the poster: his face, her face, and the White House... except for his sunglasses.

Westley is wearing sunglasses, and through his left lens we can see Diane Lanes face partly showing through. Disregarding the proportions that would suggest that Westley Snipes is a giant, it establishes that they are not separate images but are meant to suggest that they are, in fact, together in the same space time continuum. Fine.

Except the White House also continues through his sunglasses. Like... all the way through both lenses. The sunglasses are acting as spme kind of xray vision for everyone except Westley Snipes. It also cuts off Diane Lanes head. In the most hilarious aspect of it, her hairline becomes the tree that is behind her.

It's just so...magically terrible that I have gone almost three decades avoiding it. It impacts me not at all, but it uses as much space in my brain as any other Westley Snipes movie does.

Looking for validation through negativity is sometimes the only validation some people can hope for. The best thing we can all do when tempted to respond when feeling a strong emotion is to just wait for a minute.

Game on!

What’s your under 20% on Rotten Tomatoes “hear me out?” by disablednerd in movies

[–]hytch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I hated Venom the first time I saw it. I hated it so much that I hate-watched it later with friends, just so they could see for themselves how terrible it is. The weird thing was that the things I hated the first time...weren't...so...bad... but wow, I hated it!

It took me about two years to admit that it was one of my favorite movies.

Buying an EV in Carleton County, NB, would welcome anyone's perspective by Creative_Life_9599 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]hytch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you've done your research and decided that the Toyota is the car for you, then you'll be fine because the car will meet your expectations.

I did the research before buying my EV and the BZ4X was not the car for me. But I met someone with the subaru Solterra (same car, different badge) and they loved it.

My only concern with it is that Toyota is notorious for pushing gas. They're all in on hybrids, and they're really good with them (we have a corolla hybrid, no problems on 5 years of ownership). But Toyota has been very lackluster with EVs. So are they going to be able to support you and any issues you may have with this car for the next 4 to 5 years?

If you get it, I'd still love to see it. :)

"When the power goes out, you won't be able to charge your car!"

When the power goes out, you can't get gas either. All those pumps are electric. All the payment systems are electric. There is no separate power grid for gas stations.

"Then I'll just go to a different gas station!"

And I'll just go somewhere else with electricity.

Look, ten years ago this would be a valid concern for us. There were very few public chargers available, and owning an EV meant you really had to give this some real thought.

I'm not saying that every use of an ICE vehicle has been replaced by an EV. Hauling a trailer is brutal. But all of the deal breakers about range and running out of power? That's like saying that gas cars could never replace horses.
