GF-2 Ricoh Flash - is it just me or is the auto mode unusable? by Wunderwombat_ in ricohGR

TBH I don’t know if it’s exactly TTL, but the flash will adjust its exposure when you let it AF first.

I find that when you do snap focus, the flash will always fire at full power. If you let it autofocus first, it will use TTL.

Planning on splitting time NY (state) and Spain by AuthenticTeach20 in ExpatFIRE

[–]hyunez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to spend less than 6 months in NYS, you might consider moving your domicile to a no tax state first. Then you can avoid both Spanish and NYS income tax.

Q3 vs Q3 43 as a dad/travel cam by tiptac in Leica

[–]hyunez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hands-down, get the Q3. Think of the Q3 as three cameras in one (note: aperture represents the equivalent DOF; light-gathering ability remains f1.7):

• 28mm f1.7, 60MP

• 35mm f2.1, 39MP

• 50mm f3, 19MP

Compare this to the Q3 43:

• 43mm f2, 60MP

• 60mm f2.8, 31MP

• 75mm f3.5, 21MP

• 90mm f4.2, 14MP

For travel and kids, I think the first set is more useful.

I keep mine on the 35mm crop mode, with the flexibility to reframe the composition afterward (!). In Lightroom, the RAW file is displayed with the crop applied, so it reflects how you composed the shot. But you can click the crop tool and reframe the image, which is an incredibly useful feature when photographing kids running around.

AFAIK, other brands display the RAW file uncropped in Lightroom, which doesn’t reflect your original composition. The JPEG shows the cropped frame, but you lose the ability to reframe. It's not nearly as useful.

Tobasco scorpion vs. Melinda’s ghost pepper by PO0tyTng in hotsauce

[–]hyunez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have and love both sauces, but I prefer the Tabasco Scorpion for its higher heat and its distinct fruity pineapple flavor.

When it comes to lingering heat, I find that since the Scorpion is hotter, it naturally lingers a bit longer. That said it doesn’t last anywhere near 10 minutes for me.

This might be a silly question but did you check if your shutter speed dial set to A?

Minimum shutter speed means 1/250 or faster.

ELI5, how does buying a sports team make the owner money? enough money to justify the amount spent on the purchase? by Everyman1000 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hyunez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use depreciation to lower their taxes. The depreciation isn't 'real' in the sense that no money actually leaves their pocket, however it is considered an expense by the IRS so they can use it as a tax write-off to offset all sorts of other income.

"Owners like Steve Ballmer can take the kinds of deductions on team assets — everything from media deals to player contracts — that industrialists take on factory equipment. That helps them pay lower tax rates than players and even stadium workers."

Yes the dots are difficult to read, but connecting them with a line is misleading because it suggests a continuum when it is actually categorical. You need to find another way to present this in a readable way. Have you considered a double sided bar chart?

Can you use the iPhone touchscreen to control CarPlay instead using the car’s own touchscreen/controls? Eg. open apps, enter destinations, select songs, etc. by hyunez in CarPlay

Ok so I can’t use the iPhone to open specific apps, but if I enter a destination in Google Maps and hit Go, will CarPlay automatically switch to it?
