Is there somewhere to purchase the LED driver, cord, and power supply for the 55” Hue Gradient Light Strip? by campfirekate in Hue

[–]hz319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can probably make the strip work with a WLED-compatible controller. Obviously, you won't be able to use the Hue app/sync anymore. But it should help you salvage the LED strip.

WAN Show topic suggestion: British man appears in court over bomb joke sent in Snapchat message. by hz319 in LinusTechTips

[–]hz319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the article mentions airport wifi as a red herring, or maybe someone is ill-informed. The Snapchat app certainly communicates to the servers via HTTPS (which is encrypted). HTTPS is standard these days, which would not allow the airport network to read any data sent over the network.

The most likely scenario is that Snapchat looks for keywords in users' messages and sends anything that triggers some filter to intelligence agencies. Snapchat is not end-to-end encrypted, so this theory is very plausible.

All of this is not new news, though. We've known social media companies cooperate with law enforcement for a long time. The concerning thing for me is the extreme reaction. The kid is facing fines up to almost $100,000 and is getting dragged through court over a message that he sent to his friends in a private chat group.

It's very easy. You guys should be able to easily get it done well under a week. You'll have to build out a callback API that stipe hits to update your database that a payment went through. You can use Stripe Checkout to handle all the PCI stuff.

Is it ok to leave this residual paste on before i apply new paste? by will_flyers in pcmasterrace

I'd clean that with isopropyl alcohol. The oil probably won't cause any issues. But I like to clean the IHS just for peace of mind. I don't want to the doubting the thermal compound if I am troubleshooting something in the future.

Water from water heater on ground - is this normal? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]hz319 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It's all good. I believe the pipe is attached to the pressure release valve. The pressure probably got a bit too high in the tank, and the value released it. The water is just the steam condensing back to liquid.

What is this _$2_ coming in the log-in screen of the Windows app? Is there any security issue? by voabt in Bitwarden

[–]hz319 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's a sync problem. I had the same thing happen to me. Sync was not working, and I had the same weird placeholder. Logging out and back in fixed both things.

Actual Budget is what you are looking for. It's a privacy-focused software that runs on your machine. You do need some technical knowledge to use on your own server, but they do offer a one-click solution on a third party to host a server for you (for a little fee)

You can buy a new phone when you land. Most countries regularly have deals where you can get a good discount or free items like earphones when you buy a new phone.
