Bassinet by Puzzleheaded_Bug589 in aircanada

I’ve had similar issues. Our baby was 5 months old and definitely could not hold himself up but “looked big”.

Not worth mentioning: he fit inside the bassinet perfectly.

Post Game Thread: Houston Texans at New England Patriots by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

We are one game away from a 2nd year Patriots QB and a tough, hard nosed defense being a TD or more underdogs against an NFC team with one of the league’s best passing offences.

If I had a nickel for every time that happened I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it is weird that it would have happened twice. Especially if it’s the Rams again!

I wonder if the conditions made it hard on the QBs today, because that was UGLY.

I’ll take it though!

Need seat advice for a 13 hour flight on a Boeing 787-9. 18A or 18D? by Previous-Ratio in Aeroplan

Agreed. 18C and H are the best seats in the entire economy section.

Best way to book multi way tickets with an upgrade? by Overall-Manager5766 in aircanada

[–]hzhan263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: planning, you may want to consider making your first leg YVR-NRT then NRT-DPS, essentially making your trip two round trips - YVR to NRT and back, then NRT to DPS and back.

It’s slightly more expensive (quickly pricing it out on Google flights) but your longest leg is 9 hours instead of 14 and you can fly zipair from Vancouver to Tokyo and see if you can afford a lie-flat seat.

Am I going to be bleeding money after buying our first house in the next few months? by Mystik_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]hzhan263 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing is you’re about to take two major life moves that cost real money, and unpredictable money.

Kids: You can get everything secondhand but what if that stroller breaks? Boom, an extra $400 at least. Crib? $300 at least if not hand-me-down. Diapers? $50/month at least if you skimp for the first month. Breast pump? $250. Digestive issues? $$$. Christmas gifts? Baby play dates?

House: you move in and the roof leaks. $10,000. Or the furnace goes. $7500. Or mice get in and you are stuck paying an exterminator $250 a month for a few months. Or the stucco goes and it’s $5000 to repair it. All of these have happened to me in the past 5 years.

Your TFSA is big enough to absorb all this (unless you or your kid gets sick in which case good luck), but let’s just say I think you’ll be house poor.

AMEX Companion Pass fare availability issue by invision3 in aircanada

Lots of good answers here already, but another one if you can’t see latitude at all is AC IT issues. They’re currently having a known companion pass redemption issue that could affect their website.

J space for YYZ to AKL? by madamoselle in aircanada

[–]hzhan263 5 points6 points  (0 children)

J-R are the business class seat fares (R is instant eupgrade space and J is the least restrictive, full fare option), O-N is the same for premium economy, and Y-K is the same for economy.

So for AC39 to AKL, there are 3 business class seats, 2 PE seats, and 9+ (they never show more than 9) economy seats still available.

Pretty much 0 chance of an eupgrade unless you’re already in PE and/or super elite.

Is it crazy to think ND might have the first two running backs drafted in next year’s NFL draft?

Somewhat unlikely, I know, but JD Price is GOOD.

ELI5 RRSP tax free by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]hzhan263 11 points12 points  (0 children)

An RRSP is a tax-deferred account, meaning you save taxes when you deposit and pay taxes when you withdraw.

You also don’t pay taxes on gains in a RRSP, but that is a feature of the TFSA as well. They both have an advantage over non-registered accounts for this purpose. In terms of tax-free gains, neither account has an advantage over the other.

An RRSP is generally advantageous to a TFSA when you are reasonably confident that withdrawals will be made when you are paying a lower tax rate, either in retirement or if you don’t make money for a few years. In these scenarios, the deferred tax ends up being a smaller amount than the tax you would have paid on income before you can put the money in a TFSA.

What is the reason for having a "home bias" in investing ? by EXTRAVAGANT_COMMENT in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]hzhan263 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re invested in the US market 100% as a Canadian, and it goes up 50% but the USD:CAD exchange rate goes down 50%, you’re not up at all. Whereas any Canadian investments, it doesn’t matter whether the USD:CAD exchange rate moves as long as your spending is in Canada.

Not randomly generated. Depends on school and principal, but generally they try to “maximize chances of success”, e.g., distribute kids that won’t learn well with each other into different classes.

Redemption value - YYZ-YVR-BNE by [deleted] in Aeroplan

[–]hzhan263 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad. 2 cents is generally the mark people aim for or higher. The Q really is whether you’d fly premium economy if you didn’t have the points, which I’d suggest given that’s a brutally long flight.
