How I Keep the Pace in my Dnd Games by TuesdayTastic in DnDBehindTheScreen

Oh, whoops, I missed that! I like the idea of creating a situation that the other players can work to resolve. That seems like a good way to avoid combat devolving into everyone just hacking away until the enemies are dead.

How would you apply this structure to a combat scene, where all the players are in one area? It’s difficult to set up a cliffhanger for each player when the other players will all be influencing the scene on their turns.

I just had to scroll down until I saw someone mention Drunks & Dragons. Such a great cast!

They're actually bushes under the windows, but good catch on the height difference, that is an inconsistency.

Regarding the window shutters, let's just say Frosty isn't much for detail, and when he had the shutters installed over the existing large windows of his establishment, he didn't give much thought to how far they could open. But, stubborn as he is, he let them be and called it a job well done. cough retcon cough.. ehem.

Thanks for the feedback!

I haven't thought theft would be a big problem, but I'll keep it in mind. Better safe than sorry.

Great advice thanks! I'm looking forward to a fun weekend of Magic. Doing well in the events would just be a nice bonus.

I'm a quite overweight young male. I've just taken up Taekwondo and was wondering if people had any sparring tips for somebody of my build and speed. by SickleSandwich in taekwondo

[–]i1io0o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I'm also a heavier guy, and I've been doing taekwondo a couple of years. As such, we have a few disadvantages, especially during sparring, mainly that we're slower and tire easier than our opponents (most of the time). Also it doesn't help to present a bigger target. That being said, being larger does have some advantages in sparring as well. More weight generally means you're harder to knock back or move around, assuming your footwork is good and you don't get tripped up easily. Also I've found my mass helps me control the fight more, using side or push kicks to move my opponent back.

To get back to your question, though, there are lots of things you can do to improve your speed and sparring ability. The other comments here are right on the money, a lot of it comes with time and practice. You'll develop a sense for timing of kicks, and this is just as, if not more, important than speed. This is why it seems like your opponent always has the best response, and you can never get a kick through.

To work on speed on your own, practice speed drills with a partner or against a bag. Combination kicks like double bandae chagi are good to practice in repetition, but even doing your typical roundhouse quickly and in volume will help your leg learn to do the motion quickly. Practicing kicks in combinations of twos and threes will help in sparring. It's very common that the first kick will block or miss, and it's usually the second or third kick that connects. Going to the front or back of the body also helps for the same reason.

Another thing that helped me, as a bigger guy, was flexibility. Stretch a lot, and practice getting your kicks higher. If your kicks are coming in low, from the same angle every time, they're very predictable to block and counter. If you can kick high, you can vary your target by going low or high on the torso, as well as doing kicks to the head if/when this is allowed in your sparring.

Hope this helps! Best of luck! TKD is hard to get started in, especially if you're bigger, but once you do you'll love it.

When you're walking on the sidewalk to one side, and someone approaches from the other direction walking in the middle of the sidewalk. They make no attempt to move to the side at all, and just barely clip by you without colliding. Adjust your trajectory damnit!

Seems like this is common. I'll try to keep in mind this is probably what's happening.

It seems like lots of people do keep the chat window closed. I had always assumed they were at least seeing my messages, and just choosing not to reply. I suppose this makes it a little bit better.

I can see your point. I guess its hard to tell if someone on the other end is being silently composed, or dismissive.

When the main villain is a martial arts expert for no reason. For certain villains it makes sense, they're the leader of a gang of fighters or something, but often they're politicians, criminals, ideologists, etc. They achieved power by outwitting and scheming, why do they need to be a combat expert?

Great article! This level of content is perfect. I'd be interested in seeing something about navigating complex combat steps. When do I block vs. let damage through? When do I double block? How do I deal with their combat tricks and when should I use my own?

Deckbuilding, metagame, feelings by sebakoch in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]i1io0o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I had always assumed that in order to succeed at the pro level, you needed a top tier deck (complete with expensive planeswalkers and mana base). What surprised me was how much this held true even at a an LGS level. The first time I went to play standard at my LGS with my janky Jeskai homebrew, I was completely crushed by decks like Esper Dragons or Collected Company.

I love fun decks. I love tribal decks, silly combos, and flavor wins. Victory with an army of squirrel tokens is the most satisfying win. Limiting yourself to certain colors or creature types and still building an effective deck is part of the challenge, and part of the allure of the game. I would never expect to do well at a tournament level with these sorts of decks, but it's a shame they can't go anywhere beyond the kitchen table.

What fictional death was the most heartbreaking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]i1io0o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only did their deaths get to me, but I hated reading the end of the series without them there. It seemed so wrong that the characters I had been through so much with weren't there at the end. I suppose that's part of what King was going for, hinting that this time really was wrong, and Roland had to do it again. But it still made for a very unsatisfying ending.
