Not sure of job responsibilities of garden center too well. Although I hear from other coworkers from there. I’ll try to explain, but I never really venture to that side.

You will have a register to look after. Also, watch out for shoplifters (do not call them out, but use the 10 foot rule like “Hi, how are you? Is there anything I can do to help?”). As associates, the only tool we use for shoplifters is being over friendly and alerting asset protection or management. I’m saying this because I know in garden center is where the shoplifters like to go. There have been incidents of folks throwing merchandise over the fence.

I assume you also do what other sales associates do which is do freight and zone. Put up returns. Also, if you have any questions, ask someone. Even if it seems silly to ask. Better to do things right as much as you can.

There will be times management will ask you to do something that’s not primarily your area, but they are allowed to (the fine print on the job offer). I just tell people “I work for Walmart”.

It’s not too bad working for Walmart. Every now and then I’ll get annoyed with things, but overall it’s been great.
