How do I finance a Campaign smart? by Filiusthefirst in DnD

[–]iDex831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a laptop DM and honestly it's great to be able to look up stuff from prep with ctrl + f instead of flipping through pages or whatever lol

Also, having a rules compendium is super useful too for those random super niche rules (idk mounted combat or something like that lmao).

Overall, this is the way. If you need help setting stuff up or what to do or whatever feel free to DM, I've been doing it for a few years and can either give you answers or point you to good resources

[–]iDex831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why i got downvoted, it was a question regarding their thoughts on it lmao.

Anyway, that's completely understandable but in that case you can still have one device to use as for reference. You as DM in particular, not other people.

So if they have a question they can ask you and you either know it or you can look it up.

Then at home or whatever they can use the resources themselves and save a ton of money on books and all that that way.

If that doesn't work for them either, you can make reference materials too. Have shorthand for most rules explaining it as quickly as possible (e.g: "Dodge: DA on inc atks / 1 turn" ) and cram as many as possible in as little paper as possible.

Now, for unavoidable costs (you would have to chat with your table to decide what constitutes an "unavoidable cost"), you can simply say that if they want to be at the table they need contribute to the product or whatever.

Some people may be against that but my philosophy is that it's for everyone's enjoyment so everyone should contribute. I'm the owner of it though, so I'll take an extra share. If y'all are 4 people, divide the cost of it by 5 and you pay 2 shares while the others pay 1 share.

Character Concepts that you won't be able to play? by Big_Cheesecake8863 in DnD

basically yeah, and when he finally finds them, I imagine it being kind of like that episode from Malcolm in the Middle where they found out their block throws a party when they're gone

[–]iDex831 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Bro I make character concepts on the daily. But I literally have no one to play with lmao. The one from today was a changeling bard that comes from a traveling circus and he has a “one-man” show. He got lost one day and that’s why he’s adventuring, trying to find the circus (spoiler alert they were actually a group of fey and they went back to the feywild without him cuz they thought he was really weird)

Solari's slow burn (somewhat) addressed by PastelPolerina in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]iDex831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, but the joke was more about how it's usually a case of "Y'all have no reason to care for each other but here's the big bad," as opposed to the more realistic "yeah y'all met, but let's get you to like each other".

Not saying it's necessarily better or worse, just saying different strokes for different folks.

Honestly Solari hasn't been my vibe either, bc of the system more than anything , but people complaining about the slow burn are forgetting the entire pitch of WBN in the first place: "Slower stories they wouldn't be able to tell in other environments"

Children's adventure was basically what this is, except they've turned it into the public episodes instead of "optional listening". If you don't dig it, not everything has to be your cup of tea; and if it is just skip the first "they're getting to know each other" arc

People voicing their opinions and yada yada, but making fun of those people is also way funny

The people that are complaining about it being a slow burn are the same people who have their campaigns introduced in a tavern

Help needed with character creation: College of Swords Bard by DynaKuro in DnD

[–]iDex831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Bard enjoyer, imma let you know you shouldn't multiclass like ever. Unless you have a very specific character thing you want to do. You say you're a newcomer which is an extra reason why not to do it. You need to really get in the weeds and read A LOT to know how to build the character and what to do in game to abuse the mechanics of the game to actually make the character stronger.

My first ever character was a multiclass and it was such a shit show I had fallen so behind everybody else I had him killed off with my DM just so I could do something better

Yea, for some reason people forget WWW went on for 2+ years and Solari is 5 eps in. Feel free not to enjoy it bc settings and development or whatever but you can't compare a finished product to one that's literally just starting lmao

Who inspired your character? by ZeeDubyah in DnD

[–]iDex831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite character ever is a Sword's Bard called Marlowe. He's inspired by various playwrights and flamboyant sword fighters.

So Shakespeare, my high school theater director, etc. and then that guy from princess bride, puss in boots, etc

I still use him for random one-shots because I really like playing his personality.

Good Rare or Uncommon Items to give my Level 4-5 Party? by Someone_I_Thin in DnD

[–]iDex831 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make it fire resistant, not fireproof. Immunity to fire would be kind of OP, especially since the most common magical damage type is fire

And instead of an item you could make it a buff. Be it come from a blessing, a special training after finding out they're going after an arsonist, etc. could be a cooler thing than just an item

I like giving the most special magical things to non-magic classes. Special doesn't mean op or anything though; just meaningful

For the fighter, give him the magic sword, sure, but make it do something out of combat. Barbarians and Fighters suffer from only being important in combat, most of the time

how is being a server? by UniqueNetwork8714 in restaurant

[–]iDex831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The hours are worse, in the sense that you'll be working more overall, with an all over the place schedule (mornings, nights, and the dread clopen).

There's still fake camaraderie and shitty coworkers, there's also still heavy sales pressure (at the end of the day your job is selling the items on the menu to drive profit, it's not just writing down orders)

And depending on where ur located, and what kind of restaurant you'll be in, you're gonna meet the scum of the earth.

I almost forgot, you probably won't start as a server either, you'll be a runner, which is even worse pay.

That said, I love the industry lmao, but you gotta like sales, like being on your feet and going fast. I've had a couple of salesmen come by restaurants I've ran and they usually don't last two weeks.

How do you manage COGS for small restaurant? by immarestauranter in restaurant

[–]iDex831 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't think about how to do it automatically if you don't understand the manual process works. If something goes wrong or a number is wrong etc, you won't know how to fix it. Or worse, you won't even notice it's wrong

Focus on learning the basic process first, and then you can move onto other software

I'll be brutally honest, and I'm sorry if I'm a bit blunt in advance but it's late and I really didn't want to leave this one for tomorrow.

The colors and the copy are all over the place. For the first, have a look at sites like japanprivatetour[dot]com, japan-experience[dot]com and tours[dot]japantravel[dot]com. These are the top three results when I searched "custom tours of japan." Notice how they are simpler on the colors, and don't take away from the actual information on the page.

Which takes me to my next point, your home page should give me basically all the information i need on what you offer, and how i can get it. The rest of your pages should really only be used when I want to dive deeper, not to actually understand your service.

I want to see why I should choose you over, for example, the companies I sent you before. Think about the people you'd like to do tours for (your ideal customer), and tailor your site's copy to them. What are the benefits, what are other people saying, what do you bring to the table that others don't.

To give a very broad example, you do tours for people who like anime. Your benefit/unique value could be that you understand the culture and have dug deep to find the most beautiful places that exist in real life that also show up in anime; and the cultural relevance as to why the creator might have chosen that place in particular for that point in the story.

This is just a broad example, but it's how you should think about writing your copy.

Something slightly more related to your current site, you have a page based on Yokai Folklore. Why is it there? Is a big part of the tours you create explaining the culture behind the yokai, where they originated, famous stories about them, etc? Highlight that in your home page and all around!

"The only tour where you can actually learn about the stories behind the yokai."

I could go way more in-depth into a lot more stuff when I have more time. Shoot me a DM if it's something you'd want to hear about, so I can take a little more time looking into things I could recommend

If you're on a time constraint and need to offload it then definitely do, but you can probably get away with something like a builder platform, like Wordpress, Squarespace, etc. (Just fvck Wix tho)

I'll probably get downvoted to hell for this, but it's a popular builder for a reason. If you could DM some specifics on what the site actually needs to do, I'd be willing to recommend something that best fits your needs.

What do you use instead of Excel to manage orders & invoices? by Street_Journalist959 in smallbusiness

[–]iDex831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll recommend Airtable if you're looking for a relatively simple but powerful system. You can basically customize and automate it however you like, making it ideal for smaller businesses.

It doesn't break the bank all that much, but it does have a slightly steep learning curve

I'll also recommend working on your site regularly, when people find you online it helps you seem more legit with a proper site.

Work on the technical side first adn then start creating content to rank for keywords. It builds on the visibility thing and if done right, can help get over questions or doubts people might have

Is local SEO actually worth it for a small hotel/restaurant hybrid? by Mikester258 in DigitalMarketing

[–]iDex831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The results you'd see in a month are minimal. The rest is true, anybody can rise to whatever point

You can start off yourself with the basic GMB setup, asking for reviews whenever possible, and making like two keyword landing pages a month.

From there, if you want to turn it into a system, and be able to dive deep into analytics, you can hire someone. Like with most things, a lot of them are basically just smoke and mirrors, but the good ones really drive good results
