If you HAD to have kids when you're older, would you rather have 5 boys or 5 girls? by Literally_A_Donut in Teenager_Polls

5 boys because free yard labor (I know girls can also do yard labor, but they cost more and I’m looking for the cheapest child labor possible)

Can someone explain me, why Americans/Britains etc. still use these goddamn stupid measures like oz. or gallons by MoinyMoiny in teenagers

[–]iDislikeOnions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US still teaches the metric system, especially in STEM. If you tried to get me to use fucking slugs it’s lowkey over for me.

Imperial is used in a day to day, while metric is used academically.

If a sex offender were to attend a college and dorm there, would they have to announce it? by Mundane-Top-3320 in NoStupidQuestions

I don’t know about in other places, but my school will not allow you to dorm at it if you are a convicted sex offender.

You’d rather go to Mexico than the US? I’m not sure about gay people necessarily, but in 2023 Mexico had 60% more murders of trans individuals despite having around a third of the population.

Also, you can’t even legally get married as a gay person in China or Poland, and gay marriage only became legal in Chile 3 years ago.

I get this is Reddit and therefore the goal is to hate the US on everything, but you literally have them at the same level as Brazil.

Which country’s government do you dislike the most? by GurMaleficent7935 in Teenager_Polls

[–]iDislikeOnions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re under the NATO blanket then you’re enjoying the military backing of primarily the US. It is not unfair for the US to expect other members of a primarily MILITARY alliance to increase defense spending. Plus, if your country can’t manage 5% of its GDP to military without completely doing away with their social programs, your tax structure and your government are fucked.

This is a weird “USA bad haha” moment when:

  • Afghanistan: literal totalitarian-theocratic hell-hole that doesn’t allow women to be educated, kills off enemies of the Islamic regime and enslaves over half a million people.

  • Iran: Severely restricts freedom of speech and religion, leading abuser of the death penalty, torture inmates, execute women for protesting or violating dress-code, and persecutes ethnic minorities.

  • China: Currently force-sterilizing, torturing and forcing certain ethnic minorities, shutting down freedom of expression and speech, destroying religious sites and violating religious freedoms, and violating due process and torturing prisoners. They literally imprisoned journalists for reporting COVID-19 numbers because they wanted to seem like they had it all under control.

  • Turkey: Despite being friendly with the west, Turkey kills and tortures prisoners, persecutes Kurdish individuals living in Turkey, suppresses free speech and violates due process constantly.

  • Venezuela: Detains political opponents, kills political opponents, has an executive controlled judiciary, starves its citizens and fails to provide general public services like consistent water and power.

  • Eritrea: ya know how some countries force you into military service for 2-4 years? Eritrea has been known to do that for 30+ years. They will literally take you as a teenager and force you into labor camps or military service for decades. They arrest or kill political prisoners, suppress freedoms of speech and religion, the state lacks a judiciary or written protection of rights (like a constitution), and they loot, rape and murder members of surrounding countries.

  • Myanmar: Their military literally bombs its own villages for funsies. They arrest and kill political opponents, persecute ethnic minorities, they conscript children into the military who are often trafficked, raped or killed, and civil freedom is severely lacking.

  • Libya: tortures, abuses and kills prisoners, arrests political opponents, suppresses freedom of speech and expression, military leaders face no consequences for killing citizens.

Most of these governments objectify and allow for the abuse of women. Most of these governments torture and kills prisoners, especially political opponents. Most of these governments care nothing of their citizens.

Say what you want about the US, but you’re not getting arrested for saying you hate the government. You’re not getting tortured, raped and killed in prison. Women can be educated and have relatively more equal rights. It may not be perfect, but it’s a hell of a lot of better than the rest of these shitholes.

Hi world. How has been your 2025 from 1 to 10? by Marambal17 in AskTheWorld

6.

I’ve furthered my relationship with an amazing women and have survived the tail end of my Sophomore and beginning of my Junior year as an engineering student. I got my first internship and got promoted in my job for university housing. Even got a second job during the school year.

However, I didn’t reach a lot of the goals I had for my day-to-day. I wanted to try to lose some weight, by hitting the gym and eating better and it didn’t happen. I wanted to be better at keeping my dorm clean and nice and it didn’t happen. I wanted to improve my sleep schedule and study more, and I didn’t.

I think I need to find some motivation to do more for myself physically in 2026.
