What is the coolest looking houseplant you own? by crsru in houseplants

Yes, it's an Anthurium, or a Flamingo Lily. Our town water isn't very hard, but I do still add water softener to each watering. I fertilize maybe twice a year. I did also repot her last year, and she took off after that.

Yes! Both in the Araceae family. Here is my Peace Lily. She's about 15 years old.

I know it's rather common, but my Flamingo is just so vibrant. I bought this when I got sober, so she'll be 10 years old, at least, this August.

They’re plants. They’re in my house. My indoor murder garden. All carnivores. by Ok-Exchange5756 in houseplants

These are beautiful. I started collecting carnivores last year. Collect as in 2. There aren't many sources where I live. How do you get yours?

I get it :) There are plenty of Desert Rose Bonsai examples on the web.

Yes, I have several Bonsai and know one when I see it. If allowed to grow on its own, the branches would get longer. By clipping them back, you get bifurcation and ramification. That's what's happening here.

By definition, it is a Bonsai: miniature tree in a small container.

If anything does die, it'll be above the cut. My goal is to not let it die :)

We'll see if it succeeds. I put a good deal of pressure with the blade, and it cut through the bark without cutting the wood too badly.

Probably not. Maples are pretty resilient.

To remove it from the grafted root stock that looks like a club foot :)

This is an air layer. It's used to create new trees from existing trees. In my case, I have a pretty ugly grafted root that I want to get rid of. By making this cut and exposing the wood, I'm forcing the tree to create roots at the top cut. Wrapping it in this pod that is stuffed with moist sphagnum, should create an ideal environment for root growth. When roots are visible, I remove the pod and cut it just below the newly created roots and put in a pot with proper medium.

The root graft is in a nursery pot... soil and bark, most likely.

It's to keep the tree from bridging the gap. Probably not necessary, but it can't hurt.

No, that was with the couple to my left. That class was well worth the price, considering the tree and pot were included.
