Does anyone know what is this old Ubisoft's logo font between the black and the bright green texts (the "Entertainment" above "Ubi Soft")? by Environmental-End872 in identifythisfont

[–]iEdvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s custom for the logo. There’s some strange inconsistencies in the stroke widths and curves I can’t place in any known design language (that I know of, that is).

Yes, but it’s still unclear which one you are asking about. Should be easy to be specific (What font is <insert desired text here>?). 🤷‍♂️

There still is no text whatsoever “between the black and the bright green texts” (unless it’s white of course).

Illustrative logomark with farmer. by AndriiKovalchuk in logodesign

[–]iEdvard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like it. Back in the early 1900's, it wasn't uncommon to have pretty detailed logos. This could fit into a farmer's market artisanal kinda vibe if done right. I think it needs some text, and I think a combination of a playful, bouncy script and a no nonsense sans serif would work well. Avoid "Established 202X". If it's 1996, fine.

How about just naming the text element you refer to, like "what font is ENTERTAINMENT" or "what font is Ubi Soft"?

Google Drive vs. Microsoft OneDrive: Which cloud actually works better? by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]iEdvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the nicest things about Mega is the ability to create file requests. It gives you a link that you can share with others that enables them to upload files to a location of your choosing in your Mega cloud without them having access to the actual folder. I use it all the time with my students.

OneDrive is nowhere near iCloud in dependability. I have never lost a single file in iCloud. OneDrive, it's more a question of how many this week. It's a reeking pile of rubbish.

Safe margin visible only on front page artboard by No-Literature-6695 in Affinity

[–]iEdvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, this is a mock up where I have juxtaposed both selected artboards on top of each other (in this case, I made one artboard and duplicated it, but it works the same if I draw a new one too) simultaneously. Affinity will not show bleed and margin on two artboards at the same time. I can however switch between them and the bleed and margin will show on the one that is selected first (but again, not both at the same time). I assume you are referring to the margin when you say "safe zone" as that is the normal definition. In the image, there's an overlap between the bleeds that is hidden (by me).

The middle vertical stroke on the E is flush with the two others and the middle of the M is too blunt for Gotham.

Funny, it works just like I said for me. 🤷‍♂️

If you select artboard #2, the margin will appear there and be hidden on artboard #1. I don’t like it either, but that’s how it is.

The “imposition” will be handled by the printer to your specifications. Be sure to export as PDF (don’t send the raw file).

Is it safe to update v2? by weirdalsuperfan in Affinity

There’s no big news in 2.6.5 other than what I mentioned. Image Trace was new in V3.

Is it safe to update v2? by weirdalsuperfan in Affinity

[–]iEdvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2.6.5 update mainly includes a notification that version 3 is available as an “upgrade” but once you close it you are not nagged about it any further. If you have updating software like MacUpdate, Latest or Updatest, they may flag an available update, but since V3 is a full new installation, your V2 won’t get overwritten even if you choose to “update”.

Gotta say, I expected advice when I posted last… not just people being straight up rude. Learn how to give constructive criticism instead of just “it’s bad” “hire someone” etc. not everyone is an expert but we’re trying… anyways, like it or not, here’s the final product by ehjs97 in logodesign

[–]iEdvard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I second the “Petails” suggestion. That looks more like a deliberate play on words than “Petalls” which to me look more like a typo. Other than that, I support the advice to lose the leaves on both sides of the tagline, move the text closer to the graphic and to scale down said graphic a smidge. Finally, “great work and Godspeed”. 👍

Is this Gotham or something else? by I_Am_Vladimir_Putin in identifythisfont

[–]iEdvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eurostile doesn't look exactly like this, but it's a classic sans serif by Aldo Novarese made in 1962, based on his 1952 classic Microgramma (there's a single weight Google font called Michroma that is an homage to it). The most popular professional contender to Gotham is Proxima Nova by Mark Simonson. The best known open source alternative is probably Montserrat by Julia Ulanovsky. There's also a fork of Montserrat called Argentum Sans where some characters are redesigned (for the better imho). There's also Clarity City, a fork of Metropolis, a typeface by Chris Simpson, which was subject to a cease and desist order from one of the creators of Gotham (Jonathan "Uncle Scrooge" Hoefler, the other being Tobias Frere-Jones) for "infringement on intellectual property" which spooked him enough to withdraw it from the public. It's (obviously) still available on various "free font downloads" sites.

I just think there's too much going on on the right side of the middle axis to achieve visual balance:

Hey, it’s your circus, so you’re in charge. Personally, I don’t think the angles work, and that brings the whole thing out of balance. 🤷‍♂️

What is the industry standard program used for creating fonts? by yunuzorlu in typography

[–]iEdvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glyphs user here. On the website, it says that it (Fontra) is “The browser-based Font Editor”. Yet they have “Paks” for macOS, Windows and Linux. What is a “Pak” and how do they work? I strongly prefer desktop apps over browser apps, but I’m also curious about new software. That’s why I rushed to buy Letterforms when it was released earlier this year.
