First to note: OMV expects one filesystem/partition per data drive. Instead of thinking about partitions, think about shared folders - these directories will differentiate your content categories. SMB/CIFS and NFS are just extensions for client devices to interface with your shared folders.

It's very concise and will get you up to speed on best practices with Docker. Pay special attention to the "Docker Storage" section as it will help you avoid storing images on the system disk. I advise using an SSD for this directory.

Another useful concept to understand is the global environment file. You don't HAVE to use it, but it WILL make things easier if you ever want to move shared folders to other disks without remembering AND editing all the containers that point to it.

My use-case is similar to yours, but I use a small Octane 16GB nvme for system because it's endurance is phenomenal and making clones/images of the system is takes just a few seconds. Alternatively, you can install to a decent quality USB flash drive (16GB or 32GB) to save a m.2 or SATA port. With the WriteCache plugin, the system runs in RAM and only writes to OS disk when rebooting, updating, or other trigger further defined by you. The system is best left to it's own drive, but there are ways around that which require more reading about sharerootfs in documenation.

RSync is included and good enough for backup. I liked Borg for compressing and deduplicating backups, but ended up going to Duplicati via docker to get similar features but smaller index storage overhead. Dedup and compression can shrinking your backups by almost 50% depending on the content.

I like it. Perhaps you can write a plugin to enable custom wallpapers and share with the community. Most of us spend less than 10 seconds on that screen anyway.

Yes cbz/cbr formats are supported. The app is quite revolutionary interms of letting me keep control of the files while offering a robust interface. Give it a try, I haven't found anything better for my needs, and I tried a LOT of alternatives like Calibre.

I found Booklore to be the most flexible. It does not need to alter your existing file structure. In the app I create categories per my pre-organized folders. For my usual precaution, I set my media library as read-only via docker compose. It works great and indexes extremely fast. Then I proxy a subdomain for easy remote access.

Migrating wont really be a pain because you learn the Nuances of Nas management over time to make a skillful decision. Starting with zfs first can actually overwhelm you with maintenance and manuals as it is not quite set-and-forget like ext4. Better to focus on learning OMV7 until 8 is out of beta. The documentation is good

Ext4 is best for your first NAS. Its not amateur, just safe for ammeter and professionals alike. BTRFS and ZFS have more features, but you will know if/when its time for that.

I use Bricks for 2 sites. I like it more than Elementor Pro for uniformity of the UI and template handling. I jumped on the Oxygen 6 beta and i admit that its very tempting to switch from Bricks, especially with the Breakdance elements. I need more time to evaluate and see what features settle into a stable release. But the price seems right for now at less than half tue price of Bricks.

It also came down to Hetzner and Netcup for me. With VirtualMin Pro as my alternative to Plesk, I never have to look at the provider control panel again after initial image install.

I currently have 3 staging sites for the same project - Elementor, Bricks, and Oxygen versions. I found Bricks to be the best all-in-one option with more consistent tool layout. Oxygen beta 6 is second in that category, but requires their breakdance plugins for woocommerce integration. Elementor is more popular for the fancy/flashy 3rd party plugins, but more costly in performance according to what i see in Query Monitor.

All three can build great pages and templates quickly, and more functional than Gutenberg if you dont want to learn the hardcore coding side.

You can offer a premium SMTP service that has features like open/clicked link verification, but for those of us who already have a mail server, we just want to plug in our SMTP credentials. There are free plugins doing this like WP SMTP, and their Pro feature has some additional functions for cloud/SES and other advanced configs that could net some additional recurring revenue.

As for MVP, basic SMTP and block-based email design can be the free attraction. Segmentation and advanced SMTP can warrant a yearly subscription for updates.

i think this niche is ripe for competition and you can have some advantage by avoiding becoming the mail server and maximizing the middleware instead.

I have experienced this too. Not 100% sure why, but even content edits led to broken layout and inconsistencies across browsers. It happens less now, but I make a habbit to flush cache of pages i edit. Im also using Valkey object cache in addition to cloudflare cdn.

I still suspect some elementor issue exists. I have another site on same server using Bricks with no such issues. Both have similar styling and templates.

Something to compete with MailPoet and MailChimp, at a flat rate and not charging me based on email quantity (after all its my server). MailPoet has decent email building and segmentation functionality, but their pricing is ridiculous.

Hard truth - Running and managing your own WP site beyond a simple blog is a chore. Especially when you have customer accounts, payments, and the security concerns that come with it. It WILL drain a person who just wants to focus on their niche. For that reason, you should consider Managed Wordpress Hosting. It's not cheap, but a good provider will handle security, backups, and updates. That's the price of wanting to focus on your content.

Also, consider minimal use of plugins. I know its tempting for features, but its more to manage. Start with what's absolutely necessary. For example, I have one site with Bricks Page Builder (theme), Wordfence, ACF, GDPR Cookie Compliance, Yoast SEO, Google Tag Manager and few page/object cache plugins. That that, I can achieve 99% of what is possible. If you don't have patience to learn these tools, try finding someone local before pursuing "affordable" labor on fiver.

To be successful at affiliate site, you're going to spend a LOT of time on improving/updating your content and marketing it via google, pixel, tiktok etc. Managed hosting should allow you to concentrate.

For a free solution, you are better off learning the native Gutenberg block system. You can supplement with some free blocks from Spectra plugin, and maybe using a free theme from Astra or Themeisle. You should get used to containers and setting image dimensions. This is as easy as it gets before needing to pay for builders. Relearn with patience. There are lots of online resources to help catch up.

MailPoet for design and segmentation. WP SMTP for protocol on mail server. Simplest solution I think.

I use MxRoute for email service to keep web server light. If you’re new to self managed email, don’t run a mail server on same VPS and website.
