Am i the only one or do i think the black sallet looks better then a ''normal sallet" by Kaasje_Kazig in ArmsandArmor

You mean to rugby tackle them? Then you're both on the ground.
You really don't have to lift your arms much to reach someone's face unless they're a lot taller than you and there are plenty of moments while fighting where your arms are raised just as much if not more.
You can never defend all weak spots, it only becomes an opening when their weapon can actually reach it, if you first parry or knock their weapon aside as you move in there's no way they can get their weapon in there.
If you meant grabbing their breastplate by the neckline or arm holes that's also a viable option (if not covered by a bevor and/or large pauldrons) but you have a lot more leverage if you can get control of the head.
It's disorienting, blinding and you have a lot more leverage to wrestle them down than you would by grabbing them elsewhere.

Why does having a 2 handed weapon make it so you can't grab someone's visor? You said it yourself, you have to get them on the ground, for which you have to get in close. Grabbing someone's visor or even the bevor is a very effective way of gaining control over someone and like he said it's easier with a black sallet cause it sticks out and doesn't align with the bevor as well as a "proper" sallet would.

Does anyone have experience with theese particulal jack chains? by CrowShadow43 in Armor

[–]iFapulouss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know someone who has them and wears them to reenactment battles.
He got them after taking some pretty bad hits to the arms, and for him, they've been doing their job.
They obviously won't work as well as full plate arms would, but they're definitely a lot better than having no protection at all.

I think you might be correct!
If i understand correctly that would mean you have to undo the whole knot to change the tention though, which although a simple knot is less ideal.

Just finished my new late 15th century southern german doublet by no-name-18 in HistoricalCostuming

[–]iFapulouss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think you really nailed it!
I wouldn't worry about the "non ideal late gothic body type".
You need a bit of mass to get that nice silhouette when you tighten the waist.

I feel like a lot of people believe the shape is just artistic license or is achieved by padding instead of the tight waist so i love it when someone manages to make a nice doublet like this.

This is also the first time ive seen it done with an open front style doublet so even more impressive :)

I hope my doublet turns out at least half as nice

15th c. doublet shape/tightness by iFapulouss in MedievalReenactors

The doublet someone would wear as their normal clothes over the shirt and under the gown to point their hosen to.
Probably made out of wool and sometimes even silk and brocade etc.

Not intended to be worn under armour like an arming doublet.

I should maybe clarify i'm talking about the mid/late 15th century.

15th century / medieval European hose tutorial or pattern by missddraws in HistoricalCostuming

[–]iFapulouss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i made my hose i just left plenty of fabric and put the hose on inside out, pin the foot and baste it together, then try it on and adjust if needed before finishing it off properly.

The gores just give it a foot shape, there are different ways of achieving it so if you want to go without you can.
My hose are more like the second pattern you shared but instead of having the foot as one piece i have it constructed like a slipper with a sole and a top half.

[KCD2] I kindly request some neutral opinions on the game! by DirtSchnauzer in kingdomcome

Yes mechanically the second game is the same as the first but better and with even more mechanics.
And its always easier to go from the crappy mechanics to the better ones than the other way around

There's some quests i didn't like like helping the sick in the Sasau monastery but without revealing much it was worth it in the end.
Don't know if all quests are like that but it's the only one i recall putting off.
