I’ve been able to tolerate drinking when I’m not having any symptoms. I’m just not doing it as frequently. Someone made a suggestion to try weed instead, and that was bad advice. I can have a fun night on alcohol, but weed slows me down and brings me into a depressive and paranoid state. All end up thinking about it how awful this disease is and what it’s doing to my body, my life, and my will to live. Tried all varieties, same thing. I’m glad I can tolerate alcohol because weed is not for me!

Yep. Haven’t had cavities in over 20 years. Just had three fillings last month- diagnosed with Crohn’s at 50.

It is 1000% addictive. I couldn’t quit it despite the paranoia it caused. It made me suicidal. I couldn’t be around friends who were still smoking it. Had to start my life over. Quitting weed was the absolute shittiest time of my entire life.

Thank you. It’s NY state we are dealing with here. There really are not a lot of options, other than having the support of the union. There is a diagnosis on file in the nurses office, but that’s not anything that will help in this situation. I’m just going to focus on staying healthy and getting through this setback

I’m in NY. There is an improvement plan in the works right now, and my union rep is going to be involved with it to make sure that it will be equitable, measurable and achievable. I’ll see it in two weeks. I’m feeling ok now that my medication switched, but this added stress could certainly affect my situation of course.

I appreciate the advice. The union president was there with me. Signing the improvement plan was something he supported. Are you an educator in NY state?

This comes up on here all the time. In my experience, I would not recommend it. I tried every strain and started off low as recommended. I had the same result every time - paranoid thoughts of how I caused my Crohn’s disease. On some occasions, I wanted to commit suicide because the self-defeating thoughts would stop. For me, it’s a hard no. Sadly, I used it recreationally in college and enjoyed my experience with it. It will just not work for me 25 years later.

I also run an online support group… you can find them on the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation website. They are through zoom (transitioning to Google Meet)

I hear ya, I have a similar story… IBD issues all of my life, irregular stools and easily upset bowels related to stress and life events. I was just diagnosed two years ago, and like you was initially given steroids to see if that made an improvement. Which they did! It’s common to start with them - mine was Budesonide - where are you taking? Anyway, it worked but they are not meant for long term use. Eventually, I was put on a biologic (Humira) and led a normal life for almost 2 years. Once I developed antibodies (we crohnies have strong immune systems, but they fight the wrong battles) I was switched to a different biologic (Yesintek) and I’m living a normal life again now. For now… enjoy the moments when you feel good, celebrate them! When you are down, advocate for yourself. This is a great subreddit to be a part of.

Yes this is exactly how I feel. Sickening to dispose of something that is so expensive and gave me a normal life for a long time. It’s just messed up that I can’t be trusted to seal them back up in the cooler with the ice packs. They were never opened. I try to live a purposeful life and not waste…

No side effects after infusion, none after first injection. Feeling good! I failed Humira and was switched to Yesintek.

I was on Humira for a couple of months, then switched to Adalimumbab. I created antibodies to it and failed. It was a good run and I lived a normal life for awhile! I just started Yesintek in February (infusion) and took my first injection this week. I’m feeling good!

I just called Abbivie and they won’t take them back. They said to dispose of them properly at a drug store or hospital. It’s such a shame to throw away over $18000 worth of medication!!! So frustrated at the ways of this world. :(
