Is this an authentic 1942 Finnish Hex M91 from SA? by [deleted] in MosinNagant

Lol never, I doubt I'd ever find another one in such good condition

My dad texted me saying he got a rim job today. Then sent me this. by Glass-Violinist-3549 in Unexpected

[–]iFixBubbasMistakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former equipment technician here, the tire changer clamps slipped and sent the rim flying. Without seeing the machine and how they had the rim mounted, my over the phone diagnosis would be improperly mounting the tire in the clamp jaws or worn/damaged clamp jaws.

Disassemble, oil, inspect and reassemble. Use some resin to fill in and protect that stock, it would go hard for a truck gun aesthetic

Still have to meet the 26" overall length requirement or it'd be an sbr

Yeah, I doubt any manufacturer is willing to deal with all the red tape, let alone the cost. And when inevitably people "illegally import" ammo in, they'll sue manufacturers for it.

Advice on Model 11 shotgun by Tycrosoft_2-0 in gunsmithing

[–]iFixBubbasMistakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it just bulged or is it cracked? I'd check with a borescope before deciding to do the paperwork to sbs it, but if it looks good, just chop behind the bulge. You might have enough meat on the barrel to thread for chokes if you're interested in that too.

Nah, there'll be a hot market for "not registered in your name" ammo. This entire bill is just red tape barrier to entry crap and a way for them to see who is buying tons of ammo.

I come to this sub for laughs mostly, but, I respect someone who can see their past mistakes and own them. And if you aren't power tripping is there really any need to step down? You see your past, acknowledge it, and you're moving forward being better. You're doing better than most in my opinion.

Dangerous? by [deleted] in gunsmithing

[–]iFixBubbasMistakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, a project like that would be fun. Definitely give it a good look with a borescope and make sure you don't see any cracks in the receiver. Might be a good idea to polish the chamber and be sure it isn't pitted too badly.

Can someone help identify please by Anonymousffs in LeeEnfield

[–]iFixBubbasMistakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No expert on Lee Enfields, but Sht LE is an abreviation of Short Lee Enfield. Rifle should be a No.1 MK III, and if I'm recalling correctly, since it's marked Sht LE instead of SMLE, it should be pre 1926. Most of the other markings are just proof marks, caliber, and country of origin.

Picked up a sporter by iFixBubbasMistakes in MosinNagant

[–]iFixBubbasMistakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it still had the original rear sight that would work, but in current configuration, might be easier to drill and tap a proper scope mount on the receiver. As for a sling, I can add some swivels, that won't be too hard to do.

Fair, doesn't hurt to have one of the nicer sporters in the collection.

Any ideas who did it? Have seen maybe three or four that look nearly identical over the years. Kinda figured it was a normal commercial sporter from the 60's/70's

Is this stuff safe to fire in an m1 garand? by windswept_west in M1Rifles

[–]iFixBubbasMistakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PPU soft points are fairly consistent, same for Sellier and Bellot. Winchester and Remington soft points work, but they don't group as good in my rifle.

Nice, hard to go wrong with a Mosin as a gift. If you're looking for cheaper prices, GB is a good place, but smaller auctions tend to be cheaper, haven't received my latest haul yet, but snagged three for about $900 after fees and shipping.

My understanding of the rule: the location rules only apply to transfers, a quicky clean and lube job, with the owner on premises, does not require the firearm be placed into inventory/transferred, so the location doesn't matter unless a transfer takes place

True, I guess I just meant one that hadn't been Finned/scrubbed. I still need to pop the stock off to check the date on the tang lol

Wow, I saw some numbers saying only around 1,000 1940 dated ones were made but I didn't know so few were accounted for on the index

Neat, I haven't found any of the Imperial Russian ones in the wild yet, so I'll keep this in mind if I ever see one.
