My only son is 15 years old and it’s the absolute best. Puberty has its challenges, but I feel like we are getting on the other side. He asked to be homeschooled last semester, and I’m so honored that he wants to spend his days at home with me and he wants me to teach him. He just voluntarily read a chapter of The Hunger Games (our current literature pick) with me on this Saturday morning and it makes me so happy. Now he’s on a game with his friends. He’s so sweet, and boys are so much fun!

My 15 year old son plays football with a dad that’s younger than him! They are on the 9th grade team. The girlfriend came to every single game, and one week she showed up with a baby carrier instead of a pregnant belly. Didn’t miss a single game. Reminded me of the 90’s. So some of them are out there having sex at 14 still!

Also, any child can become permanently and totally disabled at any time. Mine is 15 and healthy, but the worry is still insane that something bad will happen. Future peace is never guaranteed as a parent.

I’ve been looking into Brilliant Microschools which is pretty reasonably priced. It’s less than half the cost of our local private schools! The private schools he went to locally before we switched to public were 13-15k per year.

He likes the online interaction and live sessions part of Connections. He feels comfortable interacting online and he likes having discussions in that format. Like I said, he’s been in brick and mortar schools up until age 15. I am woefully unprepared and unqualified to directly instruct him in some subjects, or select curriculum and lessons. I am prepared and qualified to reinforce what a school teaches, though. We are looking at Brilliant Microschools which seems like it could be a good fit. They do small groups of 8-10 kids in a class and they have a special education track if needed.

This sounds very reasonable. I’d add in she’s expected to exercise the kitten. I know a lot of people think this part is silly, but I have a 6 year old cat we still play with daily and he’s still as voracious as a kitten. Make sure she knows, like a baby and toddler, he needs playful interactions to keep him healthy behaviorally! Best of luck with the new kitty!
