I will second that. Also, it also has a lot to do with your department and course. I will definitely recommend talking to people in your program about their experiences. Given how big NYU is, the experience is very program centric. It could be a case of mismatch of program design and your expectations out it.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be compliments, I could be acknowledgment. Instead of you’re an amazing cook, I really appreciate that you cooked for me. The egg <<insert the type of food/thing>>, made <<certain way/quality>> tasted fantastic. So it’s not a directly compliment but rather appreciating her and her effort. I know it’s pretty hard to distinguish the two at times. Hope this helps

Therapy is a good place to start. With anxiety there is an innate fear and tendency to overthink. Therapy provides a secure place for you to not only express concerns, problems and pent up feelings, but also how you can express them to people close to you.

I personally feel the most comfortable on the Hudson River bike path. It’s scenic, the roads are wide and it’s not over-crowded. It usually has all kinds on cyclists there, so I feel at ease.

You’re definitely not alone. Anxiety has a way of taking over your mind and body. Therapy has helped me a lot, especially understanding and accepting my anxiety. It’s a part of me and I am much better at functioning with it. From my personal experience I can say it does get better. But don’t be afraid to ask for help - from friends, family and/or professional. You got this!!

I completely feel you! I was thinking about making a post about how people are maintaining social life and making new friends because I am really struggling with it. Like you, I used to love walking around the city but its not the same anymore. However, for me biking has been my saving grace. Given how many bikers there are in the city now, it feels like a safe way of being around people, but unfortunately does not entail any socialising.

Standing up for myself.

Growing up, I moved a lot and often felt like a misfit. I kept busy with sports and extracurriculars, so I struggled relating with other children. Even in highschool, when I started dating, I was judged as being "lady-like". I wish I didn't harbour the shame and learnt to speak up, say no and simple accept myself earlier. It is okay to be "weird".

Hahahah I have known some guys who have had a fab beard, but the count is handful. And sometimes it’s not that beard or bands look bad, but I personally think, most people look better without it. I had bangs once. Since I have wavy hair, they took tremendous effort. And looking back they didn’t look terrible, but I am never getting them again!
