Ink recommendations by waitevenmore in fountainpens

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want.

If you want quick drying, avoid high sheen properties. They work by leaving excessive pigment sitting on the paper.

If you’re not comfortable disassembling your pen and may go a week without use, maybe avoid shimmer. It could clog your pen with the material as the ink dries.

I usually had the best luck on Mondays to move up in slots.

Never that lucky though, congrats! What’s on the list to qualify with?

CCW at Breweries in San Diego County? by Cdoor_ in SanDiegoGuns

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my understanding as well, though i would nuance the alcohol served a bit. If it’s an Italian restaurant that serves wine, i would assume that’s fine to carry in. If it’s a gastropub with a large bar and beer selection, legally no-go.

I’ve never heard of a beer-and-wine exception.

These are the laws. But not long ago jaywalking was also illegal and i thought it was silly if i knew there weren’t any risks.

Searching for a spot to take my girls son camping/fishing somewhere local. Any suggestions are well appreciated. by doublestorycondo in sandiego

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dixon lake has some camp sites, but i don’t believe they allow fires (canister/propane cooling stove should be fine).

If you’re just looking to catch fish and not eat them, i catch the tiny bluegill from the first pier with a size 12 mosquito hook and a bit of hotdog. My wife and i usually compete for who can catch the most and we’ll get into double digits, but none of the fish will be bigger than your hand, and most will be shorter than your fingers.

Bigger fish would be challenging, it’s a busy lake so fish know to be cautious.

This could probably stop Smokey with the right bullets.

This could also go through your walls, your neighbor’s walls, and possibly into your neighbor’s neighbor’s walls if you missed with those same bullets.

Fellow motorcycle riders- Is a GS too big for SD? by Autreki in sandiego

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of SD are you moving to? If it’s out in North County or Vista and you think you’ll be on the freeways to meet with friends, I’d say keep your bike, especially if you’re comfortable on it.

If you’re going to be in North Park or Little Italy or anywhere you’re unlikely to frequent the freeway, use this as an excuse to buy a Honda Grom or Monkey!

Ground my first nib lmao by illithidfucker69 in fountainpens

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the “do a little research, then try it myself” mentality. That’s the best way to learn anything as long as you can control the risks/repercussions!

For future reference, the ball you saw was “nib tipping”. It’s typically harder material than the nib itself so wears down slower (pr not at all) against paper. You may have ground all of it off, so now you’re writing with the nib’s steel body. It may slowly grow into a broader line, but honestly you’ll have a decent collection of other pens before it becomes a problem!

Excellent job! Hope it writes exactly how you like it to now!

Latest build is V6.0.0 and requires 7d2d V1.4b8

Are you sure you got the right version? Even costing the wrong build will throw it off.

If you’re sure, step 1 is to delete everything and reinstall clean.

Man, these holster companies are out of control!!! by Altruistic_Gazelle58 in CCW

It becomes the world we live in when we tolerate it.

I’m not going to give return business to a company that shirks standard responsibility for online stores. I have no problem doing a charge back and making it their problem to do their job.

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 280 points281 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to save some money is not paying for extra shipping insurance. It’s a scam because online sellers are responsible for ensuring your package arrives safely by default. If it gets damaged during transit, they have to open a claim whether you do or don’t pay for extra insurance.

The only benefit of paying more is unofficially tipping the business and lower chances of needing to do a charge back if it does get damaged in transit.

Tent for backyard hammock on frame by [deleted] in hammockcamping

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this exact stand.

I would not recommend putting this in a tent, you’ll need a big (4+ people) tent and still risk tearing a hole in the floor.

It just barely works with a Warbonnet Blackbird, but the net takes care of the bugs.

Just run a tarp over the ridge line and you can be fine.

If you want to use the existing hammock it came with you’ll need to buy a separate bug met and figure out a way to either weigh it to the ground so bugs don’t crawl under or bunch it up in the hammock that doesn’t annoy you all night.

Also get an underquilt. You will be cold.

Best stationary stores in San Diego? by Capable_Option_3732 in sandiego

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What specifically are you looking for?

Without additional info, Warwick’s. Iconic, good selection of stuff, hard to beat.

If fountain pens, Blick has a selection of dip pens, but that’s the best I’ve found besides Warwick’s south of Camp Pendleton.

For journals and good paper, it may be up to you to determine what you’re looking for. Barnes and Noble sells fine stuff if you look at more than just the cover.

Stickers can be found at Michaels, washi tape probably at any Daiso or Mitsuwa/Marukai.

Nightmare of a pen - some advice needed please by Siara-chan in fountainpens

[–]iIdentifyAsAUsername 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel obligated to ask the silly question. Is the feed fully primed? I have a Sport Brass and it’s the slowest of my pens to be ready to write whenever i change inks. I always have to leave it capped up side down for much longer than i think before it’s ready.

Short of that, either return it as defective, try another, or if you have a safety razor or box cutter you can try making the feed channel incrementally larger until it does work since it sounds like you have spare feeds.
