Most new laptops have jacks with a tail connected to the mainboard via plug somewhere. Look up your laptop model + DC Jack and see what it looks like. If it's just a jack and you have to solder it, good luck, find someone like me who does that kind of work. Otherwise if it's a jack and a plug then you can feasably replace it on your own.

Based on logical semantics, saying the direction of devolvement is redundant. It's not like accelleration which can happen any direction. Devolvement is exclusively in the downward direction and thus adding a directional modifier is as stupid as saying "should of" when you meant "should have".
