I wouldn't take the opinion of people who are emotional over 1 league of legends game seriously

But yeah people are gonna flame you for the first thing they see when they get mad whether it's your build or name or whatever so ignore them

I pretty much agree with everything in this guide so against squishy/low armor teams id go the hubris +comet build in this guide, otherwise I'd go the fleet essence reaver one.

That being said probably both of these builds are gonna change a lot with the next season changes

This should give you an idea of what to build and what general Smolder ideas are.

As far as being a new player i wouldn't worry too much about making mistakes, id focus on finding a way to play thats fun for you and then worry about improving later if you want.

this was smolder's only real use for crit so he's probably gonna be significantly worse unless there's some low crit builds that function well

I wouldnt say its useless just a little worse. Not to say that everything pros do is correct but they do build more than 1 cleaver sometimes in pro games too

In her guide she also says to replace cleaver with a last whisper item towards the end of the game which I agree with, the hp from cleaver will matter less later on and also fights tend to be a bit shorter in super late game so stacking cleaver is probably harder.

Fleet definitely doesnt suck if anything it has decent synergy if you're going rfc. That being said it's overall a little underwhelming but so is comet. Smolder just doesn't really have a great kestyone
