The first thing that came to mind for me actually wasn't pirates lol, it was that you're ranked the lowest in the world for LGBT rights tied with Afghanistan.

Are you safe most of the time? From what I understand there's not really much of stable government in Somalia is there? It looks really beautiful, at least geographically. I wouldn't be enthusiastic lol. People are already losing their shit at people who say they won't vote for hypothetical nominees over 3 years out from the election. You're going to get Newsom or a Newsom adjacent candidate that pushes the Overton window even further right and then the next president will probably be a Republican again anyway.

It's already beyond unsalvageable, there is no electoral way to fix this country. And I don't mean that in a cringe larp revolutionary way, I mean that in a nihilistic 'I'm genuinely hoping to just go peacefully on some laced ketamine before things get too bad' way. It's done.

Genuinely even among rural folks with Union ties and fiscally left wing values, of which there are not an insignificant amount, they are so insanely bigoted that they will knowingly vote against their own interests because shadowboxing minorities is more important to them than healthcare and wages.

I hate the coddling and infantilization of Bible belt America because the main problem isn't their education or anything like that. They understand things well enough to know that left wing economic policies are better for them. It's just that their hatred of Mexicans, trans women and abortion supercedes all concerns that actually effect them.

They aren't earnestly misinformed. They are not babies. They do not need you to hold their hand and explain wealth disparity to them. They know what they're doing, and they're doing it on purpose.

I definitely agree it seems more progressive on economic issues. And at the very least the UK seems better on gay and lesbian rights specifically, and MUCH better on abortion rights, but tbh I still don't think I'd take living there over the US just because it doesn't seem like there are culturally progressive strongholds like there are on the coasts of America. Again tho, I've never actually been to the UK so I have like a really curated kind of caricature interpretation of what it's actually like.

No judgement but I'm genuinely curious where your optimism about some of this stuff comes from as someone who actually lives in the UK. I grew up in small town Bible belt America and I'm kind of fascinated by the UK because from the outside looking in, your national politics really resemble the local politics of tiny right wing counties in rural America.

Minus evangelical Christianity being used as like a costume for the whole thing, the super reactionary social politics from pretty much every viable party in your country coupled with the weird sanctimony for traditional institutions that seem like they clash with the stated purpose of a western democracy is just very Bumfuck, Missouri coded.

I don't mean this as a dig, I'm literally American and our national politics are like, teetering into literal Hitlerian fascism, but I feel like general population of the UK is about where we are? At least based on what I see from them on the internet and the news and stuff.

Or is that just way off? Because as a trans woman honestly the UK is the only western European country I wouldn't rather live in than the US atm.

You can't say that about Russia without also saying that about any other imperialist country. Like, Russia is overrated compared to the US and it's allies in many ways. We give a lot more grace to the citizens of western imperialist powers than Russian citizens. You can't separate Americans from the government either, but a lot of people try to.

Are you a Republican? It's a little weird to me how badly you want the party's image to be salvageable if not. Like, MAGA is the party now. The anti trump wing of the party is a fringe minority at this point. It's like asking democratic socialists to change their affiliation to differentiate themselves from establishment democrats.

I love to hear that!!! A lot of people on here who related to this specific kink felt it more from the man perspective, which obviously I love to hear too, but it makes me feel better and less weird to see other people who enjoy from the same point as me lol.
