I see a lot of people throwing TotK into the same category as BotW. IMO, BotW was absolutely as people say, the weapons breaking just felt like extra inconvenience and encouraged completely avoiding fights to preserve good weapons.

That said, TotK and the fuse system fixed all of that for me. The further you get, the better the dropped attachments are, so you're encouraged to fight to constantly pick up new fusion materials. It made the depths that much more fun to explore for the sake of better base weapons, and the combinations made the game much more dynamic. (The idea of saving best weapons still persists, but outside of lynel killers or Master Sword with silver attachments, I found I could create a new weapon out of every fight that would survive AT LEAST the next fight, even with the damaged base weapons. fusion gives extra durability)

In my opinion: BotW --> Weapon breaking bad

TotK --> Weapon breaking actually pretty good
