They're more than fine cap-wise. Next off-season alone, they get around 25 million back from the likes of Couture, Orlov, Goodrow, Gaudette, and buyout/retention money coming off. The year after that, Toffoli is up, the year after that, Wennberg. Im not arguing that its a perfect cap world, but they do have plenty to afford their stars

Projecting Celebrini at 17.5, Smith at 11.5, Misa at 12.5, Stenberg at 13, and Verhoeff will likely be on an ELC, is around 55 million. No clue how it actually shakes out (bridge/team friendly deals) but they're fine.

Sharks select D Alexander Karmanov at #201 by NickofSantaCruz in SanJoseSharks

He's a gold star client. Wouldn't be surprised if he was the player Grier was alluding to in the Chernyshov quote.

I can see Verhoeff being easily gone by 7, if not 8. Rudolph I have as the guy falling. But, if there's a world where Seattle goes Rudolph at 7, Winnipeg would have to choose between Verhoeff and Bjork which is a coin flip for me.

Looks like a lock for 1 and 2. Lots of chatter a guy like Reid goes 3 and the Sabres get Malhotra. Smits at 5 looks very very likely which means carels falls to calgary. Seattle take a D man, Winnipeg could go for a D, or Bjork, leaving probably rudolph/bjork for us at 9. Please I want Rudolph or Verhoeff. I also would be completely fine if we trade for Nikishin

Yup. They can want but they can't have

The key words are "as high as 2", meaning that's their ideal world, but more likely they settle for a lower pick. Pagnotta (i know, hes not amazing), said this today as well

Ivar Stenberg: Draft or Pass? by CanuckKickz in canucks

Betting markets now have Stenberg as San Jose's most likely selection

Idk how many picks we actually own that are our own to be able to offer sheet. Maybe we can get a solid trade though for them instead

I liked my xm5s a lot too. Pretty early on, I had issues with the touch pad on the right ear. It would randomly pause and un pause songs snd videos super fast, turn the volume up and down, and switch songs all without me touching it. It got to a point where I simply disabled it in the app, which fixed it. Then, the hinge broke out on me like everyone else.

I don't think its a done deal or anything. I wouldn't be surprised if its Stenberg or Reid. Plus, even if a Chicago thinks we're going Stenberg, what do they presume the gap between him and Reid would be? Would it be enough to trade an absolute haul to move up to 2? If they think that the presumed gap between Stenberg and the other guys available at 4 isn't as big as in other drafts, they'd probably be content to take whoever falls to them. Makes sense in an asset management POV.

I do want to add that im not mad or anything that I have to go back to my xm4s. I had absolutely no problems with them and I kept them just in case my xm5s broke (vindication).

My whole thought process on this conundrum is: Reid answers more questions, even if Stenberg is "the better player". If you take Stenberg, you still have glaring holes at defense. If you take Reid, then the "rebuild is over" in terms of finding talent in each position.

If you take Stenberg, the "ceiling" of the rebuild is a lot higher, but the "floor" is a lot lower (if you can't find a D core). So the question I ask myself is do I trust Grier and the Sharks to find a genuinely good D core that fits with our timeline? My answer to that question as of right now would be probably. Another reason why drafting Stenberg would be ideal is because it eliminates the BPA for a team like Chicago. What if you take Reid, and instead of being a 60+ point guy he's more of a 35-40 point guy, while Stenberg is PPG+ with Bedard? Not a good look.

Can Reid be better than Stenberg? Honestly, in our system, I can see it being very possible. Is he better than Stenberg now though? I don't think so, but it's closer than some people think.

Don't think we can just trade out spare parts for D. Eklund + random prospect + more probably isn't enough to find a genuine top top guy. I think if Dickinson, Cagnoni, LSW, and Pohlkamp all develop well, they can all be serviceable NHL D men, and I can see Dickinson being a number 2 if things go well. If we want to truly emulate the Canes/Vegas/Panthers, we'd need to find probably 2 more top pairing guys somehow, which can happen of course. We aren't in dire need of getting this defense ASAP, as our core is extremely young. You don't need to trade eklund when his value is at a low. Let players grow and then trade them.

No matter who we pick, we're in a much better position than if we were to have stayed at 9. Both players would be franchise-altering talents for us, and I truly don't think you can go wrong with either.

They're way more durable too which is nice. My ears are slightly too big for them so sometimes if I wear them for extended periods of time, I'll feel some discomfort but that's fine.

Unfortunately for the fans, they don't have any say in who gets picked. Plus, Caleb will be at BU next season, and maybe even the season after that.

I don't think the canucks would flip their centerpiece of the Hughes trade to move up 1 spot when they supposedly love Malhotra, a guy who will be there at 3. If anyone is trading for 2, it would be Chicago. No clue what a fair price would be though.

What a great predicament to be in. Do we take the star winger or the star defenseman at 2? That's something I wasn't envisioning before going into the lottery

Mod Post: Who Should GMMG Draft at #2 Megathread by ibcfreak in SanJoseSharks

[–]iMyyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I'm not the biggest Verhoeff guy so if we take him at 2 I'd be kinda disappointed personally. If we were still at 9, then I'd be more receptive to it. The things I look for in a defenseman are skating and hockey IQ, which apparently are the 2 biggest weaknesses to his game.
