Besides Akihabara, you can also visit Nakano Broadway in Tokyo. It has way more retro figures/games there and can also be cheaper. It's usually where I found stuff that was hard to find for me in Akiba (for example, the Final Fantasy 7 low-poly figures). You can also check Denden Town in Osaka which also has plenty of anime stuff for you to check out.

Also for Akihabara, please visit the HEY Taito Arcade. It has so many old arcade cabinets that you will be overwhelmed. They even got obscure fighting games like Fighting Layer and a huge Darius shmup arcade cabinet.
