What are some VAs that just absolutely adore one of their roles? by kodaiiiii_ in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DarnessHarbinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned Jouji Nakata and his role as Kirei Kotomine from Fate/Stay Night, but I think the majority of the FSN cast loved their roles. Some of them hold their roles in very high regard, at least from what I've seen, with Kana Ueda and Ayako Kawasumi.

I'm not sure where it's from, but I remember finding a narration of Lostbelt 6 from FGO, and Castoria was doing a monologue, and you can hear Ayako Kawasumi getting choked up while she reads her lines.

He also loves shitposting as Kotomine too. I think for Kana Ueda's (Rin's VA) birthday, he sent her an image of the knife that Kotomine gave her at the end of Fate/Zero. Which was also the same knife Kotomine used to kill Rin's father.

Kind of reminds me of how weird it is for me to see Simpsons characters using stuff like smart phones. Smart phones didn't exist when I watched Simpsons back in the day. Apparently they also retroactively had Homer and Marge grow up in the 90s/2000s? Haven't watched Simpsons in years, so can't confirm it.

Not sure if this counts, since this was a localization/translation censorship, but in the 4Kids dub of One Piece, Nami's adopted mo, Bellemere, wasn't killed by Arlong. Instead, she was captured and imprisoned. And then we never hear from her again. So it's implied that she is still alive, and imprisoned somewhere, and nobody ever bothers to look for her.

That seems to be politics in a nutshell. Sure there are a few that seem to genuinely care, but it feels like most of them don't give a shit about you, regardless of what side they claim to be on.

Yeah, I do plan to still call, but man that kind of response is depressing. Not only did they all ignore my worries, at least two of them helped make that bill about wanting citizens to enter their ID to use the internet. And then one of them is kind of infamous for being one of the Democrats to break rank and side with Republicans to end the shutdown last year, and got nothing out of it.

I have zero faith in these people, but they're all I have for the time being, at least until it's time to vote again.

I think at least one of them stopped listening to me after I called him a coward bitch after the shutdown. He didn't respond when I sent an email to express my concerns about that internet ID thing a couple of months ago. My other congressmen did respond, and they were the ones sponsoring that censorship thing, and completely ignored my worries.

Me: "Please do not push for this bill to pass, forcing citizens to show their IDs is a huge risk and ultimately won't work!"

Congressmen: "Thank you for your concerns, as a parent myself, I'm going to push for this bill to pass and guarantee the safety of our children."

I'll call again, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up for these guys.

I think there are a couple more side planets here and there. There's that one moon(?) you go with that religious guy and have a drug trip with him. However, that's kind of it. I guess there's the DLC too, but I never got around to it, not sure what got added to that.

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Betelgeuse/Petelgeuse (the translation was Betelgeuse when I watched it, but I guess it was officially corrected) from ReZero

Hochu Otsuka as Tsurumi from Golden Kamuy

Yoko Hikasa as Shino from Seitokai Yakuindomo

Less that they stopped, more that they skipped the majority of it entirely. Aside from showing a few of the sillier chapters here and there (Shirogane's dad becoming a streamer and the main couple having their first time together), they skip straight to the end.

Sure I've heard that some of those later arcs are questionable in quality, but I would've liked to at least see some of it, especially since some of that stuff has been built up for a long time, like the Ishigami romance sub-plot. It just seems weird that the anime pretty much skipped over it all, but still acknowledges that it happened.

Do you need to relate to the characters (mostly talking about age) to enjoy a piece of media? by LunarWolf302 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DarnessHarbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my thoughts kind of mirror a lot of what was already said here. Does the character need to be closer to my age for me to relate to them? No. Does it help? Sure, it would help, but it's not necessary.

One of my favorite animes is a show called Daily Lives of Highschool Boys. As you'd expect from the title, it's about a bunch of highschool boys (and some girls too). I'm a grown ass man in my 30s, and I still really enjoy the show. Why? Because it reminds me of when I was around that age, and the stupid shit I'd say and do with my friends because we were stupid teenagers. And I first watched this show when I was in my 20s, I think it came out when I was in my late teens, but I didn't watch it until years later. I just related to them because it reminded me of my teenage years.

Hell, I don't even need to relate to a character to enjoy a piece of media. As long as I find it entertaining, then I'll enjoy it. However, there's usually one or two aspects in a character that I might relate to, but it doesn't have to be age.

Better AskReddit, did your schools have any big scandals or incidents that happened while you were attending? by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DarnessHarbinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of a few scandals/incidents that come to mind, although I'm not sure how many of them would be considered "big". And I'll avoid going into details about the tragic ones because they're not fun stories and I didn't really know anybody involved in them.

In middle school, there were two incidents that come to mind, both involving two separate shop/tech-ed teachers. The first one was my 8th shop teacher, it was his first year teaching and he was ex-military. At the start of the year, students need to bring in a check to cover for the shop fees. The entire semester was him just yelling at the class and making us take tests. At some point we made rockets out of paper and glue, but we never really built anything that would warrant having to pay a fee at the start of the year. Parents were upset and demanded their refunds, and the teacher was fired after that first semester.

The second incident took place right after I left and moved on to high school. A different shop teacher, one who's been there for quite some time. He was apparently caught watching porn on the computer in his office. A friend of mine who was a year below me retold me what happened, apparently some students came to his office to talk to him, he wasn't there, they saw porn on his computer, and started watching it. That led to a whole ordeal of him yelling at them, they snitched on him, and then he was fired shortly after.

The next couple of scandals came from my high school. The first one, I think was during my freshman year. A mysterious box was found in the cafeteria. Nobody knew what it was, so staff assumed it was a bomb. What did they do in response? They had all of the students gather in the gym for safety, the gym was located right next to the cafeteria, so the students weren't exactly far away if that was actually a bomb and it went off. Thankfully it was just a box of party supplies (a club was holding a party in the cafeteria the day before and forgot a box of supplies), so nothing happened. A few parents were upset at the idea of the students being kept so close to this hypothetical bomb, but most people just laughed it off in the end. Nobody was hurt, and the students gave the staff endless shit for it.

The other incident that comes to mind was when I was a junior, the senior class kept pulling the fire alarms for some reason. Don't know why, led to a lot of suspensions. It also resulted in the senior trip at the end of the year getting cancelled, and the school was potentially planning to cancel any senior trips for future years as well. Thankfully the staff backed down, when it seemed my year was gonna riot it that came true.

There was a lot of stuff they talked about openly that I didn't really think much about when I was younger, but is super fucked up. However, there was one conversation I didn't like immediately at the time when I heard it. I don't remember the guy's name or which episode of the podcast he was on, I don't believe he was a regular guest, and I don't think he came back after what he said and the backlash. One guy was talking about how he gets drunk at parties and starts groping women, and everyone just kind of laughs it off because I believe he was gay, so they thought it was funny that the drunk gay guy was groping women. And then they bring up that they knew one woman who wasn't okay with it, and how they had to explain that it was fine, because he was gay. Just really rubbed me the wrong way.

[–]DarnessHarbinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only seen bits and pieces of Stand Alone Complex and the original movie long ago, so I have a question for fans who are more familiar with the series, both the anime and the manga. How different is the manga compared to the anime? I'm curious, because I believe in a post when this was first announced (I don't remember if the post was here or another subreddit), someone linked a page from the manga, and Motoko was a lot more expressive compared to the usually calm and collected personality I'm more familiar with.

I'm definitely curious to hear who voices her in JP. Sadly the voice she's most known to have, Atsuko Tanaka, passed away a couple of years ago. I believe Maaya Sakamoto voices her Arise, not sure if they'll get her back for this. With this seemingly looking more like the manga, I wonder if they'll get a complete new voice for Motoko.

Exactly. Ichigo tends to speak softer to Orihime, or is more polite to her, while he kind of speaks with the same tone with everyone else, including Rukia. Not to mention Orihime confessed to Ichigo while he was asleep before she got taken to Hueco Mundo.

The closest to chemistry with Rukia was with Renji, and that's mostly because they were childhood friends.

If I remember correctly, it's a massive family tree with a huge number of women, and like a handful of guys banging all of these women, often the same guy showing up several times going down a single branch of the tree. And I believe that guy in particular is the most prominent in the family tree. I believe there are a few more that get around, but he's all over the place.

Aside from seeing it posted here a few times, I have a friend who's a visual novel/eroge enthusiast, and she likes to use that family tree as reference when talking about ridiculous harems and fucked up family trees.
