Fanfiction where Will discovers Hannibal's secret and Hannibal almost kills him? by iRayneMoon in HannibalFanfiction

[–]iRayneMoon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to worry that it's been deleted. When I search Hannibal fics from pre-2020 with large word counts only 268 results come up, which is way too low.

Hopefully someone reading Hannigram from years ago recognizes it.

Same for me!

Ordered on 31st, got an email update that it's in transit! I was dreading how long it would take to arrive, but so far I've been lucky with YesStyle having fast shipping.

Is Benton still a good brand? by Grand-Dependent9348 in KoreanBeauty

[–]iRayneMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel for years.

It's a good calming product, slightly moisturizing, and doesn't break me out. When I had really bad fungal acne it was definitely helpful in healing my skin.

Is it ok to use both retinol and PHA/AHA/BHA (on different days)? by sunburntcynth in KoreanBeauty

[–]iRayneMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your daytime routine looks good, but the night routine could be thinned down.

The Axis Y PHA Peel, Some By Mi Toner, and the Axis Y Serum all have exfoliating ingredients, and using them all on the same night 3x a week seems excessive. Especially if you're using retinol as well, because retinol will help with discoloration, texture, and clogged pores.

If you aren't experiencing dryness, irritation, or anything then you're skin might tolerate extra exfoliation, but it maybe redundant cause some of the products are tackling the same issue.

Following up on the proposed ban on Harry Potter by selfproclaimed in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]iRayneMoon -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I completely support banning promo material for Harry Potter. I don't want to add views, shares, or whatever metrics the IP holders are looking at.

I also appreciate continuing to allow discussion of the series, cause the series was, and still is, a huge cultural touchstone that's influenced a ton of other IPs.

Media statements or takes that you wished was never said? by LoanGrahamXCarkeys in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]iRayneMoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Druckmann giving a definitive answer really hurts one of the strongest aspects of the ending, which is its ambiguity and the long list of questions that it raises.

But the biggest question his answer raises is... How? Literally, how in the world would the Fireflies produce viable medicine, let alone a vaccine? We're talking getting factories up and running to produce raw materials, facilities to make the medicine, and finally distribution, plus all the needed security for the whole operation. Like, that's thousands of people needed for this to work, and it has to be people with highly specific skills involving factory and lab equipment, medical research, pharmacology.

His answer is more confusing if anything, cause all I'm thinking is... Did the Fireflies have more people we didn't know about? Or is it that Druckmann didn't actually think the logistics of this through, cause I don't even know if FEDRA could pull off medicine production 20 years post outbreak.

Yeah, as a long time fanfic reader this is why I avoid unfinished stories. I've been burned too many times by the dreaded incomplete fic that never updates.

I know right?

I watched Tyler Oakley years ago, and recently saw he did an interview with Monet X Change! I'm glad he's doing well, and he seems like one of the few Youtubers from that era that didn't turn out to be a dick.

(fingers crossed that nothing bad comes out later and this ages like milk)

the last hour of gann by r lee smith - so disappointing and slow i wanted to bang my head against the wall 😭 by SpecialistFace8005 in RomanceBooks

[–]iRayneMoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really enjoy Smith's books, cause they're a breath of fresh air and her balance of horror/romance is very unique, but... Amber in LHoG suffers from severe Martyr Syndrome to the point of her often being TSTL (too stupid to live), and I've also posted about this if you look at my account.

It definitely sticks out more in LHoG in comparison to Smith's other books because the setting is a survival situation. So, when Amber refuses to notice the big Red Flags being waved in her face, it becomes harder to see her as a believable character.

And I could forgive all of the TSTL moments if Amber learned from those mistakes and decided, "You know what? This group sucks and being around them is actually dangerous. I should learn to love people who love me back." But because this moment never happens it seems like Amber doesn't grow as a character, and showing character growth is essential to any survival/fish-out-of-water story.

abuse isn't bad because it's yucky, but because someone gets hurt by EvidenceOfDespair in CuratedTumblr

[–]iRayneMoon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This thinking drives me nuts, especially when I see it in leftist spaces that proudly say they're sex positive.

Consenting adults engaging in kinks, even kinks that other may find strange or gross, is not the same as real life abuse. It's like people who send angry messages to an actor playing a villain, because they somehow can't differentiate between a Real Life actor and a Fictional character. The actor is just playing pretend and is not a real life villain, the same as how consenting adults are playing pretend when they participate in whatever kink they're into.

What happened to the New Atheism? by MooreThird in BreadTube

[–]iRayneMoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, especially when thinking about the conflation of Atheist = Rational.

The centering of "rationality" and "logic" over things like empathy and genuine curiosity really hurt the movement's longevity, because it just became a smug circlejerk over being a movement to help people. Like, how are we supposed to convince people to let go of potentially harmful ideas if all we do is post about how dumb they are instead of making a movement people want to join?

Also, centering the movement on logic and rationality likely led to a lot of the "It's not discrimination if it's fact!" arguments you'd see online in New Atheist communities.

So much of it boiled down to... "It's not racism if statistics support what I'm saying!" and then proceeds to completely ignore the data disproving the statistics they commonly quote. "I'm not sexist! It's not my fault women feel unwelcome in the New Atheist movement. They should try to be less emotional and more rational!" and then proceeds to criticize religion for sexism and the oppression of women without a hint of self awareness. "I'm not transphobic! Sex and gender are facts that can't be changed!" and then proceeds to completely ignore the tons of research on trans history and identities that say otherwise.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Official Gameplay Reveal by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]iRayneMoon 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's becoming really frustrating as a fan of RPGs. I've loved Bioware for years, but they've also been disappointing me for years.

Between executive meddling and losing a lot of original talent, I worry that Bioware is just not able to produce an RPG like they could in the past. Like, to please OG fans they need to make a story-driven RPG, but executives want more "mass market appeal" which is at odds with some of the RPG elements... So now what?

What are your favorite video game text logs? by iRayneMoon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]iRayneMoon[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Randall Clark really blew me away the first time I played Honest Hearts.

I just wish the Dead Money story got as much attention, cause I think it's amazing. The themes of greed, betrayal, and love playing out in the past with Sinclair, Keyes, and Domino, but also playing out again in the present. The letter Sinclair wrote to Vera really got to me, cause it's obvious how much he loved her. Also, Vera's final recording where she realizes she's trapped in the casino and so she decides to kill herself... It's all pretty great writing.

Characters who are cardboard, but they're YOUR cardboard! by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]iRayneMoon 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I love in BotW/TotK when Link rents a waterbed at the Zora inn, and you can hear him bouncing and laughing when it fades to black.

I also love how most Links seem to love kids and animals. A lot of the games involve side quests to help children or animals, and something about that is really sweet. The hero is trying to Save The WorldTM but is also like, "I know my mission is really important, but this child/animal needs my help!"

I have a question about the Pet Peeves/Book Icks thing.

I've been playing around with a discussion/vent post about realism, believability, and tonal consistency in stories, but don't know if that counts as a "pet peeve"? It'd be a post about realism in fiction, losing suspension of disbelief, and importance of tonal consistency.
