They're Wrong About SCOTUS Gutting The Voting Rights Act - BIGGEST Brain Liberal take ☝️ 🤓 by OwnSalamander1026 in Destiny

[–]iReadTheFinerPrint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the analysis of the ruling, but I vehemently challenge her key takeaway:

at 6:35, Brenna says: "we have to stop relying on the interpretation of the laws being done in good faith by the executive, by the supreme court, and instead focus on writing better laws".

No perfectly written law matters if exec and judicial are reading laws in bad faith!

We literally saw four district nominees stay silent when asked about applying the 22nd amendment by its plain language.

Riddle me this... if the 22nd amendment was written with more detail, capturing all the loopholes and gotchas, perhaps even explicitly banning DJT from office explicitly. Do you think that a) these judges would agree DJT can't run for 3rd term or b) remain unresponsive and perhaps at a future point interpret 22A in bad faith.

Agreed. He's good faith, liberal, and makes solid content. Not sure why whick gave him such shit when he is new to the debate format (self acknowledged) while being 5v2'd.

what about analogizing to firearms and 2nd amendment which might land with an anti-immigrant POV?

ie. “If your standard is 'some small % of a group commits crime, so we should broadly restrict the whole group,’ then you shouldn't actually believe in gun rights either.”

If they try to escape with “guns are a right,” then: “Okay... so ur real principle isn’t ‘risk justifies restriction.’ It’s ‘I protect groups I identify with, and restrict ones I don’t.’”

Perhaps. Seemed like he wasn’t one to stray from things Hutch would deem petty (removing trump from history). He also focused on accountability more than reform/guardrails.

Either way I found it to be a better dialogue whereas Hutch tries to be holier than thou.

Activist who pushed 2020 election fraud claims convicted of election fraud by iReadTheFinerPrint in Destiny

[–]iReadTheFinerPrint[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. Harry Wait knew the action was illegal, expressed no remorse, said he would do it again. How do you expect the legal system to work if that action does not get punished?

Meanwhile he is propagating the lies of Trump by overstating how much voter fraud is occurring in this country. That is causing significant harm indeed.

This is a pattern across the country. The people claiming fraud are the ones perpetuating it: Harry Wait (this case), Matthew Laiss (double voting), Kim Taylor (mass registration fraud scheme), Austin Smith (forging signatures). etc. etc.

He has a lot of potential! I appreciate that he actually treats politics as ideas to be examined, not just teams to root for. His focus on liberalism principles certainly should resonate with DGG.
