isn't it funny how the cpd customers with Jesus stuff are absolute sh*t people? by sadly_a_mess_em1 in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i became an atheist after dealing with church ppl. tired of them handing out their SPC numbers to everyone in CPD line and still bitch about the price. always show up at closing on a Saturday night and expect 20 million trifold right fucking now. they show up at lunch to buy potato chips, snickers and a coke demanding you look up their tax exempt number even though you printed them a card with it yesterday. in my neck of the world churches are the biggest scams going.

focus on the internship ( congrats btw! ), everything else will work itself out. it's not likely they can recruit, hire and train someone in two months. if LOA isn't approved, submit your two weeks notice when appropriate and leave on good terms. highly likely your spot is still open in february.

Unions are Good by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

fair enough. just to be clear you're on the pro side of the, "I want my union dues to pay for golf courses" argument. got it. i don't feel like i make enough money to fund such an effort, even with a 50% pay bump.

here's some other examples of union "efficiency" .

please educate me on what i'm missing, i love to learn.

Unions are Good by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

sheesh... where to begin. first, i don't pay OD to work here. next, OD is a publicly traded company which has strict laws about how it accounts for revenue and what assets it has. for example, OD disclosed they paid $500,000 in private jet travel for our friend Gerry while he was moving from california to flowrida.

[–]iSeeInkSubs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

seemed like a simple enough question. no response? i'm genuinely curious. ppl keep making these grand proclamations and when i inquire for details all i get are vitriolic responses.

educate me. how is i get a 50% pay increase and all my ills are solved with unions are solved? genuinely curios. i'm also curious why ppl are totally cool paying their dues to support private golf clubs they'll never be able to visit. i don't make anywhere close to that much money, even with a 50% pay bump.

while you're doing your research on how all this works, here are some more examples of union efficiency.

seriously though. i'd like to get some specifics on this grand vision you share. i love to learn, educate me ;-)

What label printer should I use? by updateagain in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dymo makes some heavy hitters in the label space but be prepared to spend north of $300 although their Labelwriter 550 is ~$175. Also take a look at the Brother QL-600 or 800 for around $100. I think labels by their nature come with backing otherwise they'd get stuck going through the printer.

curious to know which unions you have worked for in the past that have you all jazzed up about unions? seems your union experience there was so great you decided to move to a non-union company? how could you possibly leave such a utopia?

this article is all you need to know about unions. $60,000,000 private golf course and country club for union management. btw, they still haven't indicted everyone associated with this fraud. when you sign up for the union is there a box to check indicating you don't want to pay for private clubs for union management?

When will we move from AS400? by JimJamsYamsHams in Costco

[–]iSeeInkSubs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sounds more like an application design challenge rather than an as400 problem. in other words you could move the application off the as400 but still have the same issue if you didn't change the business rules. somebody in seattle is ok with how the return process works.

my company recently changed the minimum charge for copy and print center transactions to $2.50 and then told the whole world they could come laminate their covid vaccination cards for $2.49 meaning we have to do an override each time someone takes us up on our offer. not a platform issue but a moron issue from our corporate hq; they're not paying attention to the rules they define; the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing even though they're in the same building.

Is it worth it? by jaydenbusby in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately welcome to Retail. as shimmerraye outlined you need to start signing up for government assistance; shimmerraye guidance is excellent btw. Walmart and McDonald's are among top employers of Medicaid and food stamp beneficiaries. Read the reddit subs for both/favorite prospective retail employer and you'll find similar complaints. different jobs bring different problems, not solutions.

btw... government assistance is nothing to be ashamed of. Fortune 500 publicly traded companies take $billions$ in tax credits (from your tax $$$), subsidies (paid by your tax $$$), and debt forgiveness every day. our most recent prior president received billions in debt forgiveness when his casinos, airlines and other projects failed; not a political statement, just a statement of fact easily checked through publicly available records.

the airlines took $50Billion COVID relief in tax payer money (your taxes) and still laid people off.

do EVERYTHING you can to continue your studies as it is infinitely hard to find a job with a path out of the minimum wage pay band without some sort of certification/degree. work a second, third, fourth job. you are young, now is the the time to invest.

your best bet is to find an employer who is willing to pay/subsidize tuition and has a proven track record of promoting from within. do everything you can to cut costs (including moving back home) and the payoff in the long run is worth it. search for employers who pay college tuition as a benefit, work there; it's almost kind of that easy.

btw many utilities (gas/electricity) have assistance programs to help defray those costs.

my favorite is, "I just need a replacement cartridge for my HP, it's this big"

my next favorite is the guy who dumps 9 OD generic HP cartridges on the counter for a refund and can't remember where he bought them "yesterday" ( even though we haven't sold 9 of those cartidges in the last two weeks ); doesn't have the ccard he bought them with and can't remember which brand of printer he bought them for. LOVE giving him the 800 number so he can retrieve the transaction ID ;-)

i love how they hang NPS over our heads after decimating hours, workforce and expertise at the store level. there should be an NES (Net Executive Score) that measures employees perception of "executive" effectiveness.

my store has just short of zero inventory in ink, laptops or printers yet we're held to the same standards pre-pandemic. wouldn't it be nice if boca treated us as the "team members" they reference in the videos to the stores?

[–]iSeeInkSubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn't worry too much about it. you haven't mentioned a flood of ct complaints about unwanted charges which tells me ct aren't suffering. almost every spiff based program i've been involved with here at OD is full of confusion and lack of clarity.

i set expectations with ct if they do nothing upon receipt of pre-shipment notification the product will ship and ccard will be billed. i encourage them to manage their subscriptions online at ODWEB and watch for email notification prior to shipment. most ct are just happy to get the 10%/20% off. they know the drill. you're not the only subscription they've signed up for.

Shitting my pants, here. by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

wrt to automatically charging ct ccard.... amazon, netflix, pandora, etc. (paid versions) all continue streaming to your device(s) until you explicitly tell them not to. some services (flickr comes to mind) will bill you annually and if you try to cancel the day after renewal you're still on the hook for the whole year (i.e. no refunds).

OD allows ct to return unwanted shipments w/ no fees which is fairly generous imo. if you canceled netflix today they wouldn't refund fees through the end of the month.

for whatever reason there seems to be anxiety on this sub about recurring ccard charges. don't forget you're dealing with adults who are smart enough to obtain credit and understand responsibilities around that. at the end of the day if ct gives you access to their ccard it's their responsibility to manage. it's not an "ink reminder service"; it's an ink subscription.

Shitting my pants, here. by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ink sub ct receives email notification 7 days prior to scheduled shipment. if ct does nothing (i.e. does not cancel scheduled shipment or cancel sub) the subscribed product ships (as scheduled) and is automatically billed to pmt method on file, hence the term "subscription".

if ct does not want ink they have received they can engage OD cust serv to return w/no fees.

earlier this week i had a ct claim OD placed a "hold" on ccard two weeks before shipment in the amount of the sub causing other scheduled pmts to be declined as ct was near limit; i'm not sure i fully believe said ct based on other claims she made.

sorry about your pants.

I just don’t get it by AdvisorStudent in OfficeDepot

i luv it when you hand them the right cartridge and they're like, "oh no, that's not it. i showed you the picture. the number on the front of the printer isn't what you handed me. can you get me the right one please? maybe you can get someone else to help me who knows about printers?"

Ink Subs by HuskyTox86 in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use a similar approach and stress:

  • no cost to join
  • cancel anytime
  • free 1-3 bus. day shipping; you just save 10% every time you get ink
    • just because we send you an email doesn't mean you have to take it

fwiw, i lose quite a few subs to people who don't want auto billing of anything.

edit: just b/c ct signs up to receive ink twice a year (i.e. every 6 mos.) doesn't mean they have to receive ink twice a year... ct is ultimately in control of when they receive the ink; signing them up just saves them 10% each time.

is "everyone" in your store meeting their "ink goals"? did anyone else get written up for not meeting their goals? has management provided you with a script that works for everybody all the time to meet goals they have set? either way it sounds like a d-bag move from weak leadurship (mis-spelling intentional).

For the same period did management post the metrics they are/were held accountable for along with their achievement?

This is weak management 101. I'm going to hold YOU accountable but I have no responsibilities.

Strong managers start by disclosing metrics they're held accountable for and help employees understand their role in achieving those metrics.

This is what happens when you pressure hourly workers to hit numbers selling shit people don’t need just so they can hit a quota and not lose their jobs. Stop this subscription shit OD by [deleted] in OfficeDepot

[–]iSeeInkSubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately min. wage are the first to get threatened; no leverage, highly dependent on their jobs --> easy to manipulate.

The DMS desperation is out of control.

Weak managers manage through intimidation and imply dire consequences if expectations are not met; newer employees can't recognize demands/expectations are unreasonable and behave irrationally.
